Movies I've caught in the past months

Been awhile

Was too busy to update my blog...busy with work, lots of activities near the end of semester as school was ending for 2009. Overall, 2009 was an interesting year where I got the chance to teach music for the first time in class. I enjoyed the lessons and it helped that there's lesser markings.

Travelled to Taiwan for 3 times this year...i know it sounds very exaggerated but all for different purposes. The March trip was with my family to tour...June trip was to attend the ICT conference and also to explore Taiwan on my own (of course Taiwanese friends brought me around), December trip was to join the Teachers Educational Tour and to extend it to bring 3 of my friends around Taipei. I went to Hualian and Taichung without them as the Hualian trip was part of the Teachers' tour while I wanted to go visit my friends in Taichung.

2010 is just hours away...hope the new year will be as smooth-sailing as 2009. Happy New Year everyone!

Challenging days mini reflection

2 days ago, realised that my finger skin eczema is not getting any better so was fretting about my piano practical exam on 24/9. Managed to solve the problem and was at Teachers' Network for the 18 degree Space Sharing Session for the whole day.

Upon reflection, here are my learning points:
  • what bothers you in your personal life shouldn't affect your work (professionalism)
  • the effort you put in may not be recognised by others but is recognition important? what is your purpose in pursuing/contributing to a project? (passion for learning)
  • appreciation and being humble when there's guidance available (heeding advices)
  • being an effective team player matters more than a domineering leader (charismatic and influential leadership)
  • prioritising what is important at present (organising in 'chaos')
  • finding simple pleasures in all that you do. facing challenges and critical voices bravely (self-counselling)

Like what my P aptly said: "A teacher today does not only teach in class, in short, we are 'BGL' =Bao Ga Liao"

Catch me if you can

Caught this movie today and really liked how the plot unfolds although the basic storyline is the cop chasing a thief who is very crafty. The costume and music used for the movie setting was also interesting.

Wonderful weekend with wonderful pple

Been too busy lately to update my blog...here's a brief run down of events that took place recently...

Friday 18/9 PSLE LC (PM session: time out at 4pm to attend piano lesson 5-6pm before exam on 24/9) Realised that I left my hp in school when I've reached Dhoby Ghaut so quickly called my colleague for sch's contact number to ensure that they don't close the school before i rush back to get my hp. Was in time to find the hp and Miss Ng kindly offered to give me a lift to Serangoon as she's heading home and I'm going to my friend's house to prepare for her wedding tomorrow. I will miss my P as she's retiring by the end of this year because she's the P I know since I've entered the NSPS family. Managed to find my way to Eileen's condo after passing the Getai and walking to the wrong Cherry Gardens beside Cherry Hills...super confusing...once entered the condo compound, overshot and went to a wrong lift lobby...had to retrace my steps...lots of wrong turns before finally finding her...Spent the whole evening till 11pm preparing the wedding challenges for the groom to win the bride's hand...met Mrs Yeo, our sec sch home econs teacher as she's Eileen's Godma...had a nice talk with her. =)

Sat 19/9 Headed to Ang Mo Kio Christ the King church by 1130am to help out with the church wedding before the couple and their entourage arrive. Followed one of the bridal car to Regent Hotel around 3+pm to get ready for the wedding banquet. The 7 bridesmaids and myself quickly did our makeup and change into evening wear to prepare to welcome the guests. By 6pm we were ready at level 1, outside royal pavilion to start the cocktail reception. Met alot of sec sch pals whom she invited so was a nice reunion. The wedding video and animation by Stefine was sweet and rather hilarious. Creative idea to invite Singapore's only 变脸大师 as a special performance. By 12+am, we finally called it a day and went home. So happy for the couple and glad that I played a small part in their romantic and wonderful wedding day. Popular day for wedding due to the date 190909 =)

Sun 20/9 Went to Kovan to Cherie Hearts playhouse by 930am. Headed to Kovan coffeeshop for wanton mee with BTPC friends before heading to Somerset OC with Yifen & Ray. We had Ben & Jerry's and a drink at Heaven's Loft before Yifen & me went to shop while Ray went to find a cafe to work. We were at catalyst when we spotted a nice blouse for Yifen. Since her bday is coming up and she really looked gd in it, I quickly paid for her and present it as a gift while she was still in the changing room. We walked around and she got me to choose my bday gift too...got a holga camera strap before we hear from Ray that he entered the Finals of a Wii Sports competition on Level 4. We spotted him from Level 5 and were waving like aunties spotting their boy at a competition before we realised that there's an uncle filming footages for mediacorp...faints...started laughing at ourselves. In the end, Ray won $100 vouchers and we went for dinner at Heaven's Loft again to use the vouchers as they are due by 30 Sept. We could also get 2 tubs of hand-packed Ben & Jerry ice-creams. Both of them generously offered to let me bring one home..I chose the choc mint and frozen berry yoghurt. We walked down to PS to visit Etude House and buy some cosmetics before taking the NEL home. Gave Yifen the folder and nail polish which she likes. =D

Mon 21/9 Hari Raya Puasa: Stayed home to clear my work before enjoying a sumptuous dinner with my parents and their Chinese business friends at Seafood International. The restaurant has been renovated so there's greater ambience but the food quality is still as fabulous...=D

Teachers' Day Celebration 2009

Going to wake up early to make homemade pancakes for my colleagues in NSPS. Special people in my NSPS life will get special delivery and mini gift cards as well. Have also prepared belated birthday gift for my colleague and her twin, Waiyin and Waihan. Promised a student to give her a special sticker for her belated bday gift. Her birthday falls on the same day as Michael Jackson, 29 August. Looking forward to the concert tomorrow in school. I love NSPS! =D

Mona Lisa Smile

Caught this movie on Channel 5 on Sunday afternoon. I like it alot! Think will try to find the vcd in the shops soon...

Baybeatz 2009

On the final night of this year's Baybeatz 2009, managed to find a friend to accompany me to go. Reached Esplanade by 715pm and caught the concourse show by a local 21 year old gal inch chua and her friend mark performing. Their music is really nice and Kiah Hong and myself enjoyed it. We headed out to the Arena next and the band performing was a group of Malay guys who were really gd with their band instruments. The last song they performed had an Indian guy singing. Very interesting.

Head started feeling light cos didn't really eat today except for the yami yoghurt just before I met up with KH at Novena Square 2. We went to Gluttons Bay and shared the table with a really sweet old couple from Norway. Had a great time chatting and having our food together. Took photos for them and have emailed them already. Both of us were like local guides telling them abt the food and the way to eat them the Singapore way. Super amusing.

After they've left, we walked over to the booths selling clothes and accessories. Like a mini flea market. I bought a dummy camera necklace cum keychain. Chose the white color from the pink/baby blue/yellowish green. The girl was actually wearing the white but I really liked that instead of the baby blue so luckily she was willing to sell. =D

The outdoor stage was heavy metal band performance so we only stayed for awhile before heading back into Esplanade to walk to the art display at Citylink and to head back to Marina Square where his unique red truck was parked.

Had a great night out, hope to go for more events soon.

Euphoria for born to shop shopaholic

Been in really gd mood recently cos of my new creations of handmade accessories and also the retail therapy I get when im alone or when im with friends...esp. the ladies...haha. So high!

Feel a sense of achievement *tiny ones of cos* when i see pple appreciating the handmade accessories i make and sell. it's like getting a form of recognition and knowing that the style that u created is something pple adore. would like to take this opportunity to thank all the friends who have been so supportive and giving great suggestions and comments for this little hobby cum business venture ive just started like 2 saturday ago...

Feels great when i talk to my female friends and we can go for tea and also shopping together. catching up and updating each other abt our lives' has always been very interesting and fun for me.

However, it's the retail therapy that gets me high...seriously why do pple need drugs and illegal stuff? The window-shopping, going for sales and sourcing for great bargains is so thrilling that I can simply shop all day and not worry abt anything else.

Saw this job at Topshop ION today, style advisor...it's like a personal shopper thing...like u can consult the person abt helping u with your style and getting new clothes...it's such a great job! But of cos, one has to be trained to be sensitive to fashion changes and like be ahead of everyone else in knowing the latest trends and what works on pple and which kind of style or clothing suit a certain kind of pple, etc...super cool i feel. Maybe if i was designer or fashion trained, this could be the next job im looking at...but at the moment, im contented being a teacher and also appreciate that i can shop and get high due to retail therapy...=P

Recovering phase...

Finally back to work today...feels gd to be able to teach again though i've just regained my voice. Think i miss my students...during music class taught them the national day songs and for my p4 chinese class i managed to cover spelling and dictation as well as explain the composition they are suppose to complete. Tried a new method for composition teaching today. Instead of using the visualisor, I drew the 4 pictures on the whiteboard and the kids find it amusing. Managed to get their attention and also can bring emphasis to the parts I want them to elaborate on when they are writing their compositions.

Went for the Basic Musicianship course in Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School in the afternoon so didn't get to see my p1 class. I didn't have much appetite recently and thus didn't eat much in school today as well. Took a cab down to the sec sch as I was feeling quite tired also. Was the first to arrive in class and had a talk with the instructress. She's quite nice to talk to. Learnt new techniques for teaching music today and it was interesting because we also saw videoclips abt different kinds of music concepts introduced by Dalcroze, Kodaly and Orff. Will try to search the clips online and show my music classes if possible.

Got a lift frm one of the classmates and took bus 72 frm Tampines home. Quickly showered and met Jiahui below my flat to pass her the bday gift and souvenir frm Taiwan as well as to get her wedding invitation card. Most probably can only make it for the wedding dinner. Managed to chat for awhile before meeting Albert to go have late dinner together.

We went to Mohd Sultan area, Zen Japanese Restaurant. The sushi was really gd, esp. the soft shell crab maki and salmon sushi. Tried the cold tofu and seafood chawanmushi too. The tori karaage also had a nice sauce. The restaurant actually sold Unazukins at the cashier counter so got a "yellow congratulations" 2004 series unazukin. So adorable! (Will take a photo and post another day...) Btw, the waiter serving us was frm Jiangsu and he is one of the better looking Chinese waiters with gd service that I've met so far. Perhaps also quite young like 20+ and probably still new to Sg or the industry.

Headed to Liang Court Meidi-Ya to get some Japanese snacks. Saw a thermos flask with a very sweet design...heart-shaped and baby pink in color. It was the last one left in the supermarket and in the end, got it as a gift. =)

We went to Clarke Quay to walk around. There's a tentage over the bridge linking Clarke Quay to Central for the Singapore Food Festival. Maybe cos it's Mon so the area wasn't as crowded so we headed to Socialhouses Singapore next. The male dancer was around but he didn't perform tonight. Think he can really dance well but perhaps also because he is the sole male dancer there. Haha...went to get Teh Halia at Jalan Kayu before heading home. Like the way they do this drink here as the ginger taste was just nice. =D

Online feedback form

Tried calling this number for Singhealth Polyclinic Group HQ: 62364800 but no one answering the phone. Sent an online feedback form already. Hope they will do something about it and reply me.

Wrong diagnosis by doctor

After consulting the doctor at Raffles Medical Clinic at Seng Kang Compasspoint, realised that 2 days earlier, I went to the Seng Kang Polyclinic and the doctor there actually gave me a wrong diagnosis. 误诊很严重!

Imagine it's a viral infection in my throat causing a big ulcer but he only gave me cough medication and lozenges which won't help the illness...if I didn't go to the second doctor, i don't think i can recover as fast as possible and probably won't know what kind of virus that was.

I'm contemplating if I should do something about the wrong diagnosis...how can a qualified doctor make such a mistake??? Patients trust them to give the correct medication and medical advice. It's also not the first time I encounter a lousy doctor at a polyclinic. The previous one when I asked him what rooibos tea was, he said he never hear before and don't know what that is.

After eating lozenges given and drinking salt water, somehow I ended up having diarrhoea yesterday...think overdose of lozenges...if there's such a case..haha..

Throat viral infection

Woke up this morning without much progress for my sore throat...still cannot really speak as it's even painful for me to swallow. Went to school and the principal saw me in the general office. She asked me to go see a doctor and rest at home since I've no voice. I want to work yet I can't...sigh...

Went to Compasspoint's Raffles Medical Clinic cos didn't want to wait for a long time at the polyclinic. I reached there by 910am and was out by 1020am. The doctor was very nice, giving me advice and useful information about my condition.

Apparently, I caught a viral infection that is common in kids. Probably got it from my students in school. I have a huge ulcer in my throat on the right side and it's the reason I feel pain when I swallow or cough. The doctor says that there's nothing much that can help the ulcer except a gargle that I can get from pharmacy but it's pricey $10+ (Difflam). Normally the ulcer will subside after 5 days. Since it's already the 3rd day, just have to be patient and he prescribed some oral tablets for the pain and reduce the swelling.

Experience of being mute is not nice at all...

What decade fits your personality?

Took this test on facebook and the result was 1940s

You are the ultimate romantic at heart. You put a high priority on true love, patriotism, and dedication to honor and duty. Whether it be serving your country or serving your family, you have a very hard work-ethic balanced out by your whimsical, dreamy heart. You are willing to take risks, go where no one has gone before, and you have a sense of pride in everything you do. Just as you are in touch with your inner beauty, you also give just the right amount of focus on your outer beauty-- standing out with the latest fashions and getting in touch with your sensual side. Your sexiness is not scandalous but rather classy and poised. You are the envy of those around you because no matter how much tough work you have to do, you keep a smile and look good while doing it.

HEROES 3

Caught the opening and the premiere episode...i'm hooked!!! Think the story is developing into something very interesting...the official website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/heroes/

Mute

Woke up this morning due to drilling works above my flat...wanted to sleep more but couldn't...my throat had a sore, burning sensation...couldn't really speak. Luckily still on MC for today...but tmr will have to be back at work...wondering how I'm going to teach without my voice tmr...haiz...rely on computer and whiteboard already...hope the students will be cooperative.

Flu

Had a terrible sore throat yesterday and the situation worsened this morning. Couldn't really speak cos it was too painful...had runny nose too so had to visit the polyclinic where the wait was torturous as alot of people were down with flu and the doctor was taking a long time to call my number.

Given 2 days MC and hurried home to rest. Felt so sick that there were giddy spells...luckily didn't faint outside...Wanted to sleep after taking my lunch but was woken up by renovation works above my house...so noisy...even when I listen to my MP3, still can hear the noise...hope I recover soon cos I didn't feel like staying at home unwell, I want to go to work!!!

the Kube

Saw this new product at 7-eleven on Sunday but they didn't have black color so I didn't get it. Was looking around different outlets to find the black color Kube but couldn't find. Bought a pastel green Kube at Centrepoint 7-eleven and the auntie told me can exchange at other outlets if I managed to find the black one but I must keep the receipt and don't use the Kube first.

Went to meet my pri sch pals and Mrs Yeo at Heeren and the 7-11 there still has 1 black Kube left. So I asked if I could exchange the product as I just got it today. The guy over the counter was from China and he flatly refused to let me exchange. I asked him to check with the outlet in Centrepoint by calling them but he said he don't know their number. I asked if there's other personnels around that can handle this matter but he said he is the only one in the whole store. What irks me is his attitude. I got pretty angry but there's nothing I could do as I didn't have the outlet number as well. Left the store shortly after and am thinking if I should email feedback to 7-11 for the guy's lousy service and attitude...

Emotional roller-coaster

For the past week, I'm on an emotional roller-coaster. Due to some very hurtful remarks, I had several breakdowns in various places...near Esplanade, at Bugis Macdonalds, in school, at home...somehow i couldn't control myself from not crying...thanks to all those who offered support and concern during this time...i know im beside my normal self, thanks for being so tolerant...

I also learnt that I'm glad to be a teacher...being with the kids takes my mind off the unpleasant stuff in my personal life. Seeing their faces, hearing their laughters brightens my day...i thank my lucky stars that i have such a job instead of facing only adults in most of the working environments.

Currently in state of recovery...soon the storm clouds will clear and there will be rainbows across...

Solitude

i think i need to be by myself sometimes...somehow i feel that i need the space and freedom to have a peace of mind. no one to control what time i get home, no one to care how i feel, no one to ask why i'm doing this...etc. Maybe i should go to a deserted island...like in the movie "Castaway" but of cos not in such a harsh environment where basic survival skills are critical. I should perhaps rent a place somewhere in sg where it's secluded enough for me to go into solitude yet i still have access to my workplace and shopping malls...

"Big Fish"

Caught this movie on dvd this afternoon...I really like it...so far it's the best movie I've watched this year. Though it's a 2003 old movie but I like the plot, the way the director filmed the movie. It's like a grown-up fairytale...the little girl in the movie had a very pretty dress, the female lead whom the male lead was wooing is very beautiful...the ending of the movie was very touching...cried when the son told his dad the story...

Never ever felt this way before

It was the first time yesterday that I understood what my sis meant when she said that she can be so angry sometimes that her tears will just fall. Not that she wants to but she is just so angry she cries. I almost did...but that was simply because of some insensitive, non-human human insulted me. Seriously, no one has ever said such things about me to me before. I didn't know that someone can be so evil and direct to the point of hurting another person so deeply.

I was talking to a friend on the phone to pour out my woes but it didn't really help cos I was so upset and I felt that I should have slapped that person. But upon second thoughts, why should i dirty my hands? Why should I give that person a chance to report me to the police for physically hurting someone? Nope, I won't be so silly.

At first, I thought we can be normal friends but it's no longer ever possible. I won't hate that person but I probably will take forever to forgive that person for making such cruel comments. I didn't even defend myself there cos I was too shocked that someone can be so blunt. So hurtful, so senseless. I would probably have lost my mind if I were to contact that person again. Who will go contact someone to earn more insults and humiliation? Who will go ask for trouble and unhappiness? No one sane that is. I was walking around aimlessly trying to cool down, taking deep breaths and all but nothing seems to help.

I managed to contact one of my "bros" to come and meet me but that was late, like 10+pm. No choice, he had an appt. I was at The Cookie Museum to have a drink cos tho I felt hungry I didn't know what to eat. Managed to try some very interestingly flavoured cookies. I had chicken rice, yoghurt, rum and raisins, macadamia with white and dark choc, etc. Last time I was there, tried Nasi Lemak, Heh Bee Hiam, rose, lemon and ginger, etc. Then they were closing so I went outdoors. There was a waterfront performance. Some hip hop singers that were actually presenting their original works which were very nice. One of them also gave out free CDs...and I managed to get one. I think they are really talented pple. The DJ is only 15 and he has been working with the singers since 3 years ago..went to 7atenine at Esplanade to wait for my bro and also to drink something and eat something. Tried the mash potatoes...very smooth, very tasty. I like it. Tried the Choya Martini and it's very nice.

Josh came around 1130pm and he ordered the Singapore Sling and 7 islands to try. The Singapore Sling had alot of cherries. The 7 islands tasted very erm...how should I put it, I know the dialect word...siap siap...if you understand that is...haha.

Managed to pour out my troubles to Josh and he was very patient to hear me out. Thank you Bro Josh if you are reading this. I truly appreciate you being there when I needed someone to pour my heart out and be there to support me. I know you are busy and you have your commitments. I also know you were actually thinking of your bed when I was rambling away but I am glad you stayed and ensured that I reached home safely. If not probably today in the papers you will see a report of me lying in the streets dead drunk...haha. It crossed my mind that I should do that...to get myself dead drunk and become numb so I can forget those unpleasant thoughts.

I don't know how long this wound will take to heal I hope soon because I don't want to be weak and let others have a chance to attack me. It's the survival of the fittest in this society. I may be knocked off balance for now but I am climbing back up already. I still feel vexed and I still cannot get rid of the feeling that there's a breath caught in my throat that I can neither swallow or expel out. I hope I can get some wise advice about how to handle this anger. I don't want it to consume me. I hope I can forgive and forget but I probably need more time. I don't know how long but I am already working on the path to gain my faith in humans and confidence in people. Wish me luck.

Birthday wish list 2009

Don't normally do wish lists but thought that this year I'll heed my sister's advice:

1) UOB Ladies Card
2) Shi Wan Ge Wei Shen Me (DVD, professor tortoise)
3) Wii
4) Michael Buble's greatest hits album (not sure if there's such a CD)

So far that's all...haha. If anyone is interested to get me the items just leave a comment. =)

Lotsa fun!

Went to Eileen's house to play her new Wii...super fun! Serene was there too and I found out when she's playing a game she changes to a different personality. She is playing to win...and actually it's super funny when we are playing boxing. As a spectator, you can see all the different weird poses of the players and how engross they are in the game. Tried Bowling, tennis and boxing. The games are really tiring. Can feel arms aching and whole body perspiring. If only Wii is not so pricey then can get one and everybody at home can play and exercise rain or shine...=)

毒舌

So hurt by someone who commented abt me and another colleague: "她越来越胖,你越来越瘦。" I know I've gained weight since my Taiwan trip but have started my dieting...don't have to hurt me this way what...sob sob...I know that someone has no ill meaning, just being truthful. No wonder they say the truth hurts...

Recently caught movies

Caught "BLOOD" before my Taiwan trip and found it very gory...the ending was quite disappointing. Watched "Drag me to hell" last night and it's been awhile since I was so freaked out by a horror movie. Still I didn't scream. Had a slight headache after the movie cos the sound system was too powerful (Vivocity).

Very true!!!

This is what I read from my horoscope reading frm OPEN将 today:

Totally agree with the sentence in red...need to bear this in mind.

Confessions of a shopaholic

Read the book some time ago but caught the movie on the plane back to Singapore. I really like the movie, think cos can identify with the main character, being a shopaholic myself...Just got a top from Outfitter's Girls "Born to shop" haha...super cute. I think my June salary has all gone into my Taiwan trip but it's worth it. ^_^ My total check-in luggage was 50.2kg...scary right? My sis commented on facebook that I brought another her back...basically all the hard cover children storybooks and the conference materials...My heart still aching from the excess baggage charge...didn't know will amount to so much, maybe posting the books back would have been cheaper...oh well...what's done is done...just have to scrimp and save, maybe even go to drastic measures to ban myself from my fave stores to cut down on my spendings...can i do it? hmm

Saturday Night movies

Been catching Sat night movies on Channel 5 lately. A few weeks ago, caught "Elizabeth Town" starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. It was really sweet for her to help him compile a travelling book with songs as he cope with his father's death. Just watched "A lot like love" starring Aston Kutcher and he really looks good...=)

Necessary Extravagance

Had lunch with my colleagues at Soup Restaurant in Compasspoint as Yihong and Liu Yuan will be leaving us soon. Was invited by Rosman to view his graduating works at NAFA so decided to go take a look. There were alot of different art works like paintings, sculptures, etc. There were alot of people at the event and met Siti and Rosman there. I like the zocard they have to advertise for this exhibition. Looks very elegant and classy.

"Blood"

Went to Orchard to get a gift for my taiwanese friend's nephew. Decided on a travelling spoon and fork set with a case so that they can use it to feed him when they go out. Went to tcc in Kinokuniya to read my Marian Keyes' book "This Charming Man". Managed to complete it and had a nice Royaltine cake with peach tea. Met up with Albert for dinner at Bugis and we went for a movie "Blood" at Iluma's Film Garde. Before the movie, tried Lavender hot chocolate at cheeky chocolates. The drink is quite nice...the movie was very gory and scary. Think too violent...

Raizal's wedding

Took 109 to Pasir Ris Community Centre to attend my colleague, Raizal's wedding. The bride had a gown that reminds us of Barbie doll dress as it's pink and very princess-like. The hall was nicely decorated and after taking photos with the couple, we left as they were making their way to the bride's house. Headed to Sengkang Library as Jeremy dropped me and Waiyin at Compasspoint. As it's the holidays now, can borrow 8 books instead of the usual 4. Will be doing alot of reading for the next few days. =)

Little Red Flower

Caught this China film on okto on Sunday night. The children were able to express their emotions very vividly and their determination to achieve the little red flowers for doing something right was very endearing. The boy who was the main character tried to coerce his friends to believe that their teacher, Mrs Li is a child-eating monster. He has a very mischievous face and often gets himself into trouble. Like almost all the Chinese films I've caught before, I couldn't understand the ending. It was rather abrupt and I didn't understand the message the film was trying to convey.

Nakhon Thai restaurant

Went to try out the thai food in Kovan recommended by my NIE classmate with my family. The food was authentic and the mango salad was very nice. For once, I like the red ruby dessert cos the coconut milk taste was not overpowering. The restaurant often attracts alot of people so don't be surprise if you have to queue for your table.

Nora's wedding

Went for 18 degree's meeting at GMPS before taking a ride with Celeste to Ang Mo Kio where I took a train to Marsiling to attend Nora's wedding. The buffet was a huge spread and the food was really good, the fried ayam was really nice! Went up to Nora's parents' place to see how her make up is getting on, and had a nice chat with her. When we came down, Rosman and Ibu Siti was here with their baby girl. Siti is pregnant with a baby boy and is due in September. So happy for them. After taking photos, we left together. Rosman gave me a lift to Plaza Sg after sending Siti and his daughter home at Choa Chu Kang.

Choir exchange and Eat with your family day

Last day of school for semester 1, have to bring the choir students to Siglap South Community Centre near Bedok for an exchange with other schools (Junyuan Pri, Tao Nan Pri and Punggol Pri). All the choirs sang a song each before being separated to different groups to learn a Japanese song sang in acapella style called "Hotaru Koi" which means Firefly in jap. After singing the song, they also learnt a line dance with the song by Wondergirls "Nobody but you"...that song was ringing in my head for a few days cos of the mrbrown video and so coincidental that they used the same song. When I reached the school, happens that Esther and Amanda are leaving as well (can leave school earlier today because it's eat with your family day) and I joined them for dinner at Sakae sushi in Marina Square. Sharon Wee and Luyen was also there. We had a great dinner and proceeded to Kbox for karaoke. Left the place around 11+pm.

The White Rabbit

Went to The White Rabbit for dinner today. The entrance with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sign is nearer to the restaurant. It used to be a chapel but have been converted to a restaurant. Dempsey Hill was quite crowded for a weekday night. Think alot of people like the atmosphere there.

Tried the Wagyu Pot Au Feu with rice noodles. The beef is nice, almost melting once you put it in your mouth. I like the ambience of the restaurant. The lights were quite dim so trying to take photos there prove to be challenge cos if I were to use flash, then it will be too bright but without flash, the place is rather dark. The restaurant's website: http://www.thewhiterabbit.com.sg/ The website is quite interesting. Can check it out =)

Headed to Max Brenner for suckao dark choc drink at Esplanade after dinner. Heavenly...

Stomach upset

Was supposed to go to school today at 7am for the Choir performance at Raffles City. However, I had stomachache and diarrhoea. Don't know what I ate wrong. Dragged myself to piano but after dinner quickly headed home to take my medication. Still got some leftovers from the last polyclinic visit. sigh...

《海角七号》

Caught this movie at home this afternoon cos Mum bought the vcd some time ago (school holiday cos Vesak day on Sat). It's quite funny and the songs are nice. I like this scene from the movie. Think the color and the image are very beautiful.

Singles Mingle

Was invited by Claudia to join Chris and friends at Sentosa for Singles Mingle from 3pm-8pm yesterday. Got to know quite a number of people and met Shuduan there. The weather was very hot and the different group games soon got us perspiring. After the games, we went to Jing Jing coffee shop at Purvis street for dinner. As there were alot of food left, they decided to play 终极密码,whoever guesses the correct number has to finish the food the game master selected. In the end, managed to clear the food on the table and I was lucky enough to not guess any numbers correctly. We went to Minds Cafe to play board games next. As we took the package, there were alot of finger food and in the end it was back to the 终极密码 game to clear the food. Guessed the number twice and had to finish some snacks. Luckily the next table people only ordered drinks so can enlist their help to finish the food. Went back quite late cos was taking a ride with Pin who happens to be my neighbour, she lives in blk 924. So coincidental! Had a lot of fun!

Asiaworks Guest Event

Was invited by Hui Hui to attend the Asiaworks Guest Event this evening, however, she fell ill so I went with Chris. It was interesting to see that their ice-breaker activity was quite different, introducing yourself as a famous personality. The session was a sample of the basic programme.

How to tell if you are a real teacher

Real teachers grade papers in the car, during commercials, in meetings and in the bathroom.

Real teachers cheer when they hear April 1 does not fall on a school day.

Real teachers clutch a pencil while thinking and make notes in the margins of books.

Real teachers can't walk past a crowd of kids without straightening up the line.

Real teachers never sit down without first checking the seat of the chair.

Real teachers have disjointed necks from writing on boards without turning their backs on the class.
Real teachers have been timed gulping down a full lunch in 2 minutes, 18 seconds. Master teachers can eat faster than that.

Real teachers can predict exactly which parents will show up at Open House.

Real teachers know it is better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.

Real teachers know the shortest distance and the length of travel time from their classroom to the office.

Real teachers know the difference among what must be graded, what ought to be graded, and what probably should never again see the light of day.

Real teachers are solely responsible for the destruction of the rain forest.

Real teachers have their best conferences in the parking lot.

Real teachers have never heard an original excuse.

Real teachers will eat anything that is put in the workroom/teacher' s lounge. Real teachers hear the heartbeats of crisis; always have time to listen; know they teach students, not subjects; and they are absolutely non-expendable.

Metro EXPO sale

Went to Singapore Expo with my parents and sis this morning to check out the crocs shoes...didn't managed to find a pair for myself but mum and sis got a pair each. Sis found a pair of white and silver wedges which was too big (size 8) which looked really good, such a pity. Went to eat Lau Lim Mee Pok before heading home. Going for piano lesson later...if only I can laze at home...haha...

AJC bear

Went to AJC to get the AJC PE attire bear. It's a donation of $10. Really cute! Will post photo of it when I take one.

Netbook

After school, met up with my parents to head to Funan to get my new netbook from my cousin. Brought along my old VAIO to value it and trade in. Bought the Acer Aspire One black netbook. It's very lightweight and small, so different from my old VAIO. The VAIO was valued at $70, well after 7 years of use, it can finally retire...

Went to eat laksa before heading home.

Managed to find these 2 books frm Seng Kang Library. Quite hard to borrow her books normally as she is a popular author. Finished both of them over 4 days. Think she writes well but somehow her stories always revolve around the law. "Harvesting the Heart" is more towards relationship though so quite refreshing for me.

Gal's sat

Met up with Hui hui and Angel in Wisma's Starbucks and then we headed to Canele for a late lunch. I wasn't feeling hungry so tried the Salad Canele which is quite nice. The Organic tea is also quite soothing. We went to DFS and Far East after that. Headed for my piano lesson around 430pm.

Urban Clap

After work, I headed to Bugis as there's some time before going to Yanhan's gig. The new shopping mall beside Bugis Street, Iluma is opened already. The mall is quite huge but some of the shops are still not ready yet. Saw a stall selling lip balms from USA with very interesting flavors like M&M choc or Kellogg's cornflake and even Snapple! Quite tempted to get as they cost $7.90 each but remembered that I still have a few frm Bodyshop. Went to the open space outside Raffles Place MRT to support my ex-colleague, Leon who was performing. Sis' fave lecturer Yang Junwei was the host. He does know how to dress to look gd. Leon sang a couple of English and Chinese songs, with one of his own compositions, which was quite nice. Think he should come up with his own album. Waiyin was there to show her support. =)

Inconsiderate people

After meeting Josh last night to let him pass me the things he helped me get from Taiwan, I had diarrhoea this morning. I suspect it's the dessert cos Josh is fine and he didn't eat that. Went to the polyclinic to see the doctor. While I was waiting for my number to pop up on the screen, a typical ah lian was chatting loudly on her hp and coughing without covering her mouth. Then later outside the doctor's room, another China lady was using her hp as a jukebox. Not everyone appreciates her taste in music and yet after plugging in my mp3 i can still hear her music. So sickening. Got 2 days mc to rest at home.

"A Place Called Here"

Started reading Cecelia Ahern books as I bought the 2 books in 1 "P.S.I Love You" and "If You Could See Me Now". I didn't watch the movie of "P.S. I Love You" but the story is very touching I like it alot. "If You Could See Me Now" is a rather funny book. I like the way the invisible friend says where he was from...making words spelt backward appear like a special place.

The last book I read from her collection is "A Place Called Here". Quite an interesting book, showing how the main character arrives in the place where all the things that are lost. They don't go missing but appear in that place, like missing persons, missing socks, etc. It's a cool concept that things don't disappear but appear in another realm.
Think I will try to find her other books and complete reading the collection since she didn't write that many books.

Nights without air-con

Feels like hostel days again cos my room's aircon decided to go on strike. Sleeping on the cold hard floor of the study room with sis to use the fan. Think my back is getting quite stiff from sleeping on the floor. Will have to bear with this till the repairman comes to fix the air con.

JC gathering

Received Charm's email that there's a gathering this evening. Went back home to shower and change before meeting them at One Fullerton's Overeasy. In the end, only Charm, Harold and Guolong made it. Headed over to Starbucks for drinks and chat as it was getting quite warm outside. Met Hui hui also, think she went to Butter Factory to party.

Lihua gathering

Met up with my primary school friends at Vivocity last evening. We went back to Marche for dinner as there's more seats there for a group. Went to Pacific Coffee for drinks and chatting before heading over to St James Powerhouse. Angel has a friend working there so we don't have to queue and could get in quite fast. Didn't stay long as I have to work today. Guangtong gave a lift home again. =) Looking forward to the next gathering at Sentosa, can get some Vitamin D. =D

CHANG Korean BBQ restaurant

Went to CHANG Korean BBQ restaurant at Dempsey Road last night. The marinated beef prime ribs tasted very nice. Tried the ginger tea which was quite sweet and served cold. Realised that years ago, Dad brought us there to look at Teak furniture but last time they didn't have that many restaurants in the area. Quite a nice place to chill and have dinner. Quite quiet last night, maybe cos it's a weekday. Dempsey Hill website: http://www.dempseyhill.com/main.htm

Here's the website of the restaurant: http://www.changbbq.com/en_index.htm. I like the black and white photo of the entrance of the restaurant. Very classy looking. Went to Mt Faber for coffee after that.

"Shinjuku incident"

Went for 18 degree meeting in the morning. 联合早报 sent a reporter to interview us so answered some of her questions. Met up with Bro Dave's friend Soon Lee at Cityhall for coffee since both of us didn't feel hungry to have lunch. Walked around the area before going for my piano lesson. Went to watch "Shinjuku Incident" and found the movie rather violent and gory...quite different from Jackie Chan's previous movies. Think the female actress that Jackie Chan was looking for in Japan looks very classy. Her features are very beautiful. Tried the scallop rice burger in Mos Burger. Not too bad but think the Yakiniku rice burger still taste better.

Sang Doo Let's Go to School!

Currently watching this Korean drama series...wanted to get it for sometime and previously one of the stores was having a sale so got the dvd version as the vcd has sold out.
About half way through the drama already. Quite a nice show and i like the music in the show, think it's called "My Love". Can view the short video http://cn.last.fm/music/Sangdoo+Let%27s+Go+To+School+OST/+videos/+1-H8QiUMEpULo

Earth Hour

Didn't go to Esplanade park for the earth hour concert they were having. Just stayed home and made sure my room lights were off during that hour. Think they should do this at least once a month for the effect to be relatively significant. Then slowly make it into a bi-monthly affair. =)

How Stuff Works

Was watching Channel Newsasia this morning before going to work and they introduced this website http://www.howstuffworks.com Have heard of this website when I was in the U and found it quite interesting as there's alot to learn from the site. They have different categories for you to browse through and I found this under the leisure astrological sign part:

October 7 Birthday Astrology
by
Jill M. Phillips

Libras born on October 7 need to come out of their emotionally protective shell to meet their destiny. They have a strong philosophical bent, which they often express through humanitarian activities. Because of their tendency to be moody on occasion, they need to become involved in lighthearted, life-affirming activities.

Friends and Lovers
October 7 individuals rarely show all aspects of their nature to any one person. This is not to mislead but because they are insecure about their feelings. It may also be difficult for them to be honest with a lover unless they feel unparalleled closeness. They look for a soul mate, not just a partner.

Children and Family
October 7 natives draw strength from their upbringing. Many of their humanitarian aims have a basis in the way they were raised. When they become parents, they are anxious to reveal the aspects of life that might otherwise go unnoticed -- teaching their youngsters about compassion and caring.

Health
Because of their deep concern for the environment, October 7 people often live a "green" lifestyle. They may prefer to walk instead of drive or eat organically grown produce. Their commitment to causes can lead to emotional exhaustion. Meditation helps to replenish their energies.

Career and Finances
October 7 men and women are committed to careers that allow them access to changing public opinion. They aren't materialistic, yet they have the ability to appreciate what money can do, especially for those less fortunate.

Dreams and Goals
It is the desire of October 7 men and women to use the influence they possess to help others. Although their opinions are often extreme, they have the dedication and commitment to make a difference. They know how difficult it is to balance personal and professional responsibilities, and they try to strike a happy medium.

I agree with the part about preferring to live a "green" lifestyle. There's a Earth Hour 60 by WWF which I've joined and it's simply a movement for people around the world to actually not consume any energy for an hour on a specific date. Think it's quite interesting, especially when you see the whole city shutting off their lights together at that particular time.

Twilight

Finally after searching for quite awhile, managed to get the last book "eclipse" for the complete twilight series. Karel got me Book 1 and book 4 as Xmas gifts so I have to search for the other two over in bookstores here. Got "New Moon" from Borders using the gift card Amanda got me for xmas gift and "eclipse" from Kinokuniya.

Kinokuniya displayed the gold lettered "eclipse" near the entrance and that book costs $22+ but I found another copy with silver lettering near the centre of the bookstore costing $19+. Was wrapping the books when I realised that my copy of "eclipse" was published by another company instead of the other 3 which was by "Atom". Have started reading the first book which should be fast since I've caught the movie.

Surprise bday dinner

Contacted a few pri school friends to meet up for a surprise birthday dinner for Hui Hui. Made reservations at Marche and was there at Vivocity quite early. Felt quite tired walking around and waiting. Luckily Xinwei came around 6pm and Angel arrived around 7pm. We got her a cake from Breadtalk and took photos when Guangtong came around 9pm. It was fun remembering the silly things we did when we were in primary school and it was nice of Guangtong to give me a lift home.

Valentine's Day

Met up with Karel at Bugis to have lunch at nydc. Didn't have much of an appetite...not sure why...walked over to Sculpture Square for the flea market that Ryan was having. There was a live band from NTU which help to improve the atmosphere. Went to Esplanade after that as he wanted to get more recordings on his new Canon camcorder.

Had Haagen Daz Ice cream. Wanted to get lemon sorbet, mango sorbet and tiramisu with the waffle but the lemon was not available. Tried raspberry instead but that was super sweet. Went to Plaza Sg after that and we went back to Bugis for dinner at Wing Seong Fatty. There were alot of caucasian customers and it seems to be a popular eating place for them. The food was quite nice and we ate till we were very full.

Glad that he likes the watch I got for him and the rose was very nice. =)

Lihua Primary gathering

Supposed to go to Settlers' cafe for our gathering on sat, but we didn't make any reservations and there weren't any tables available. Angel, Genming, Hui hui, Dunlin and Xinwei made it to the gathering. We went to the Italian restaurant at the Riverwalk called Ricciotti instead. Tried the homemade pasta with prawns and mushroom. Tasted good.

We walked over to Clarke Quay for some coffee at Nectarine before going to the arena. The live band there is quite good but the service by the bartenders were quite annoying. They insists that you queue for the drinks and appeared very snotty. Got my friend quite pissed off.

Went to Genming's house after that and had a long chat. It was good catching up considering for Hui hui and Xinwei we've not met since we graduated in primary 6.

Marina Barrage

Met Karal for lunch at Shokudo first before taking a train to Marina Bay. There's a free shuttle bus to Marina Barrage and there was a crowd at the barrage. The musuem of the barrage shows the development of different water catchment areas in Singapore and even a simulation model of the actual barrage. The view from the barrage to the City area is indeed quite stunning. There were also groups of people having picnics and flying kites at the solar park. Bought a lanyard with water wally as a souvenir. Nice place to go to enjoy the scenery at no costs at all.

Most durable specs

Felt restless after work and tried calling Borders to check the twilight book "eclipse" but there wasn't anyone to answer the call. Headed down to Vivocity and went around Page One looking for the book but it's still out of stock. The rental bookstore will only have stock tomorrow, not sure when I'll be there again so didn't reserve a copy (need to pay the full amount first). Had dinner with Karel at Marche and tried this cous cous salad...like fried rice and it tasted good. Decided to pack some for lunch tomorrow. We were standing near the railings of the roof garden when we decided to go to level one to sit down. Karel was bending down and my elbow hit him and sent his specs flying down 3 storeys to level one. To our amazement, the specs didn't suffer a single crack. Really lucky cos this is his spare specs...will be quite blind without it...haha.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter

Just finished reading this book by Kim Edwards. Jiahui saw the book at PageOne the last time we met up but it was the only book left and was bent at the covers. Saw the book at MPH and since she has yet to buy, I helped her get it and could read it first. The story is quite nice.

In Heaven

Learnt from the news that Shin has left...haven't been following her blog for sometime but the news came as quite a shock cos thought she's been trying out new treatments that can help with her condition.

Read her blog and found out there's a memorial service on Saturday afternoon. Hope her two kids will remain strong as they grow up with their memories of their brave mum.

Chingay 2009

Totally forgot abt the parade until Karel sms me this morning. Didn't bring my camera along but luckily my hp can also take photos and short videos. We went to Shokudo in Raffles City for dinner first and then walk over to Saint Andrews road. He bought tickets near the centre stand and there were seats. The security checkpoint was quite slow with only one personnel checking the bags for each station. The parade was quite interesting and there were fireworks at the end. First time being so close to the fireworks. Quite a nice show.

Singapore Zoo

Haven't been to the Singapore Zoo for a few years already so decided to bring Karel for a visit since he has yet to go there. We arrive around noon and got tickets with the unlimited tram rides.

There was a wide variety of animals and I like the white tigers the most. The giraffes were also pretty. Over at Kidz World there was a goat which just gave birth to 2 black tiny goats that were trying to walk. There were also quite a number of ponies there too. Had lunch at KFC there.

When we were walking from the kangaroo area, a caucasian girl was going on her way to see the baboons and it so happens that a tram full of people were passing and she just said " hello baboons" as if she was addressing them...so funny.

We ate ben & jerry ice-cream before leaving the zoo around 4+pm. It was a fun trip and much of the zoo has changed.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Today in school, we celebrated Chinese New Year. We had a concert where there were lion dance, games, sing-a-long session and dance. The kids were thrilled to see the lion dance. The fusion dance by the P2 girls were also quite cute. I was leading the school in singing the Chinese New Year songs...there were 5 songs in total and the first song we got the rest of the teachers to come on stage to sing together.

After school, I went to Hitachi Towers Green Sanctuary to shape my eyebrows and also get a mini facial. Feels good to have the facial. Took a train to Boon Lay to meet Karel. We bought sushi and had a burnt pepperoni pizza for dinner. Haha... Got the chance to skype with his younger sis and mum too.

Tanglin Mall Mcdonald's

Brought Karel to Ma Maison in Bugis and he likes the food there. Saw the other 2 books of "twilight" available in Kinokuniya but didn't get them yet as I want to check out Borders first. We went to Bugis Street and I bought a blouse for $10. Took a bus to Suntec city before going to Orchard.

Went for my piano lessons before catching a cab to Camden Medical Centre. Supposed to have a JC gathering there but the place is quite pricey. We decided to change location and we went to the nearest mall. As Gloria is on a budget so we had dinner at Mcdonald's...spent a long time chatting and we only left for home around 1130pm.

Catching up

Went to IKEA with my family to look for new curtains for our living room. Couldn't find the bar that is long enough and the curtain designs were not suitable. Had a light snack and I got to eat the Swedish meatballs. We went to Mohd Sultan to have lunch at Yoyogi. I walked over to Riverside point and Central to meet Karel for drinks at tcc in Central. We sat by the riverside after that and it was really windy. I went for my piano lessons and after that Peishi contacted me so I joined her for dinner. I only ordered drinks as I told my parents that I will be home for dinner. Had a good time catching up with her.

Cough cough

Ever since the first day of school where we had to move to our new workstations in the staff room, I had the flu with my sensitive nose. Went home and took panadol but maybe cos I went to sleep after that and didn't take enough water, I ended up with a cough and sore throat.

This morning when I woke up, the sore throat was quite bad and I felt like I was losing my voice soon. Hence I called the school to tell them I can't make it to work today and I went to the polyclinic. I thought I was early and won't need to wait for long, but there were already 50 over people in the queue. The registration took awhile but the consultation was quite fast.

Met Kang Lee at Compasspoint cos I didn't take breakfast and my stomach was growling in the clinic. She commented that I look pale...went home to rest and slept quite alot throughout the day as I didn't want to talk too much.

Ponyo

Met Karel at Plaza Singapura's Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe for snacks before going to Cathay to get tickets for Ponyo. The movie is quite cute and the little girl is very adorable. I have the theme song as my hp ringtone now...went to Sakae sushi for dinner...didn't eat much as I didn't feel like eating. The official ponyo website: http://www.ghibli.jp/ponyo/

Surprise xmas gifts

Karel is finally back from Netherlands...he brought me 2 xmas gifts...he actually got me "Twilight" and another book from the series!!! A lot of bookstores here have run out of stocks for the books and I was thinking if I should get them when they are available...so happy to receive them as gifts!!! Thank you!

He also gave me chocolates for my family...we went to shokudo for late lunch before I went for my piano lessons. Headed to Vivocity and went to Bonbon Tea for dinner. Tried the potato gratin, ham and cheese pizza, chocolicious red tea and homemade tiramisu ice-cream.

New school year begins

Went back to school for the beginning of a new school year...I'm teaching P1 and P4 Chinese and lots of P3, P5 and P6 music lessons...The children whom I've taught before look happy to see me teaching them music, taking that as a good sign...haha. Arranged to meet Jiahui after work to catch up and exchange Xmas gifts.

We went to Vivocity and had a snack at Superdog before walking around. Was wearing my new heels in school for the whole day and my feet were aching quite badly. Luckily U.R.S. was having a sale so i bought a pair of slippers similar to what Jh was wearing but got it in pink as they have ran out of the bronze pair for my size. We didn't buy any clothes though a few stores were having sales...some were still a little pricey. We went to Sushi Tei for a light dinner before going to Bonbon Tea for drinks...the place is very quaint and nice...seems like not a lot of people notice the shop as it's quite empty on a Friday night. We tried Yummy Tummy for tea and macaroons as well as hazelnut choc cake. The cake was really nice, not too sweet but we felt that the macaroons were too sweet...can hardly finish the 6 we ordered that I had to bring 2 back home.
