BBQ

Met up with Shuixian and Samantha at Serangoon mrt station around 4+pm...again was early but Sam was even earlier.

Yifen came next and after waiting for Shuduan, Mindy and Yuanlin, we shared a cab to go to Shuixian's place. Peishi arrived next, followed by Wanjun and finally Tzehan and her bf.

We took some time to start the fire before we started with the chicken wings and sausages. Quite hungry by the time we were preparing the food. There was fried rice which I ate alittle. I like the otah and the sweet corn the best. Tried Peishi's recommendation-banana with nutella...quite interesting but a little sweet cos she put alot.

We left around 10+pm. Had a good time catching up...next week school will reopen and I just realised I forgot to register for Practicum 2! Have to wait until add/drop day.

Why?

Went to California in Somerset in the morning to attend Bodycombat...as I was leaving the club, decided to check when my membership expires...was told coming November. According to the GM, the guy who signed me up has left the club so there's this promotion going for such members.

I have to pay $289 monthly for 1 year before I pay $8 per year for the subsequent years...tempting offer considering that it's a lifetime rate and there's 12 1- month passes and a gift pack.

After considering for awhile, decided to sign up for it...less than an hour later, Dad called saying that Diners called him asking if there's a purchase of $3000 over, they wish to verify...He's upset that I signed up for the club after the other time when he was against me signing up for the membership. Tried to explain to him that the subsequent years i only need to pay $8 per year for the membership but he insists that we talk about it at home tonight...Think there'll be more scolding ahead...haiz...why can't he understand that I'm just signing up for a fitness membership and not something that will waste my time and money???

Hopefully he'll be able to see where I'm coming from and allow me to continue with it...think can't cancel the purchase if im not wrong...

Had lunch with Delong at Sushi Tei in Paragon before heading to Orchard Library to borrow some books...still can't find Memoirs of a Geisha...either on loan or missing from the catalogue. Managed to find the gingerbread man and gingerbread woman from Chocz at Paragon...hope that it'll still be edible by the time it lands in the hands of Mr Tay.

Tops

Met Jiahui around 230pm at Orchard today...went to Wisma and Taka and since it wasn't raining, we walked down to Heeren and Far East Plaza...managed to get a pink top from Far East at $15. Chanced upon Joyce from AMKSS, she's also out shopping with her friend. Chatted for awhile before we went our separate ways.

Felt hungry so we went to Sakura after I passed Jolene the California gold membership application card. It's $79 per month, I still have 2 cards left, offer ends by Jan 06 so if anyone of you is interested, do let me know asap.

We took a bus (SBS 7) to Bugis. Over at Bugis street, I managed to get a orange polo top for $10. Quite a good bargain. Jiahui accidentally stepped on the back of my sandals and the strap broke so had to go look for a pair of sandals. Managed to find one from Leather Ark in Bugis Junction costing $28. Jiahui offered to pay half the price. We took the train back and it was quite crowded. Luckily don't have to stand too long before I got a seat. Quite tired from all the walking...need to train shopping stamina again.

Sun with Moon

Met up with Dave at Wheelock Place to get lunch at Sun with Moon, a japanese restaurant I intended to try out since some time ago...

Tried the zaru soba and tofu cheesecake...the cheesecake really tasted very good...not too sweet.

Checked out Mango sale at Isetan but didn't managed to find any tops that I fancy. Hope they slash the prices further and I can find nice tops for practicum 2.

Bought a small original Absolute Vodka cos like the bottle...managed to get the Andy Lau CD at Sembawang Music Centre for the cheapest px I could find $22.90...will be listening to it later.

Photos galore

California Gym

Met Celina for Bodycombat in Somerset Cali at 1030am. Had a gd workout before we left for lunch at Scotts foodcourt. Tried the tom yam kway teow...taste quite nice as the tom yam is clear soup type.

Checked out Andy Lau's new album at gramophone...quite expensive...$26+, most probably check in Sembawang Music Centre tmr.

Went to Far East and met Jolene at the toy collector's store eXarth. Celina and myself went to Yakun for some toast and coffee before we call it a day. Have arranged to meet Dave tmr at Wheelock Place in the late morning. Most probably will try out the japanese restaurant with the tofu cheesecake...have delay it for quite sometime.

Shopping

Met Josh last evening to find some chocolates and gingerbread cookies he needed to get for his friends for Christmas.

Managed to get the chocs from Candy Empire in Millenia Walk. Got the gingerbread from Olio Dome in Suntec. I went to Bodyshop to get some bodybutter for mum and concealer for sis while I bought the white musk too edt.

Had his dinner at Marche before taking the train back. Spent a nice time catching up.

Back from trip

Finally reached Singapore late last night...luckily the flight wasn't delayed or will reach home even later...

Before going home, we went for Jalan Kayu Roti Prata...taste so good...haven't eaten it for quite some time.

Decide to rest for 1 day before heading for the gym tmr...will be developing the photos at Orchard tmr too...hope to try out the Jap restaurant with the Tofu Cheesecake...=P

Guess where...

It's the 5th day of the Hokkaido tour and we are now located at the Chitose airport...tonight we are living in the hotel in the airport itself...it's the first time we're living in an airport hotel and frankly, today we had quite alot of good food so feeling very full...

Thus far, today we had a rather packed schedule, waking up early by 5:15am. We visited the two waterfall called silver river and shooting star then we proceeded to Ainu Village to watch a cultural show, then we headed for the music box shop. I managed to buy one small wooden music box with a japanese tune, have to wind the music box ourselves first before music can be heard.

We went to the seaport market to have taraba which is the big crab and it tasted really good. We had to rush down to the white chocolate factory before it closes at 7pm. We saw how the chocolate biscuits were made and had time to try out the cake and ice-cream there. The chocolate cake was really rich and tasty. Otaro park was the next destination. We had another crab meal but this time tried the hairy crab. Of course it is not as tasty as what we had in the afternoon. By 10pm, we have checked into our hotel and by tomorrow we will be back in tokyo. If only we can travel by train or coach instead of plane...quite sick of taking flights especially when there's delay due to heavy traffic flow in the airport...waste time flyhing around in circles in the air...

By the way, caught the sunrise on the plane to Hokkaido the other day...quite magnificent. At least now I've caught both the sunrise and sunset on the plane before. =) Will blog more about the trip when back in Singapore, with photos too.

Feeling lazy

In the end, didn't managed to meet up with my two friends as one of them couldn't make it for lunch...gotta wait till after 27th Decemeber or later before we meet up...

Feeling lazy and reluctant to go for my piano lesson later in the evening...but don't seem to have a choice. Unless I fall sick i suppose...but wouldn't want that to happen now cos tonight I'll be setting off for Japan! After the last trip years ago, really miss the food and the sights of the country...although everything is super expensive there but the quality of service is guaranteed...if only the service standards in Singapore is as good...we still have alot to learn from them...

The flight is scheduled late at night, so will be sleeping on the plane...will be visiting the white chocolate factory for the first stop...looking forward to tasting the delicious white chocolate...should be able to observe how they make them! Can hardly wait for the tour to begin!

Like the lyrics of this song...find it rather poetic and it has a nice tune too.

Chicken Little

Think the movie is quite funny and interesting...hope to catch it before I go away for the Hokkaido trip...counting down: 10 more days!

浪漫滿屋

Completed watching Full House last night...borrowed it from my cousin. Felt that the female lead 宋慧喬 is really pretty...耐看形,while Rain can be rather boyish and cute...grade the drama 7/10 =)

Raja Inn

Met Samantha, Yanxuan, Shuixian, Wanjun, Huili and Liyin at Tiong Bahru to have dinner at Raja Inn yesterday...tried the Tom Yam Chicken...real spicy but taste superb...

After dinner, we went to Coffeebean so I decided to try the Xmas Peppermint Mocha...felt that it is a bit too sweet for my liking...prefer Coffeeclub Express' Crunchy Freeze...=)

Revision day out 4

Dragged my lazy bones outta my bed and got myself to Kovan Mcdonald's by 10+am to revise with Yifen. After lunch, started feeling quite sleepy only felt much better after getting a Venezia Hazelnut gelato...=P

Revision day out 3

Met Shuixian at NLB & only left the freezing level 9 by 4+pm. We headed to Yoshinoya at Bugis Junction for our meal (lunch + dinner). Walked around for awhile before I headed to Orchard. The train was super packed...sandwiched like sardines...so relieved to get out after a couple of stations.

Walked around Wheelock Place and found the japanese restaurant featured in this week's "男人幫" on level 3 (think the tofu cheesecake looks extremely tasty, must try it next time). There's another craft shop selling interesting scrapbook materials too. Went to Borders, managed to get a seat, tried to do a little bit more revision but soon could hardly fight off the snooze monster...rested for awhile before checking out Isetan supermarket and the CD shop over at Pacific Plaza. Quite surprise to see some of the albums going at only $9.90...

Finally, met up with Angela by 8:50pm. Thanks to her, could try out gentle yoga at True Yoga. The place is quite nice and cosy but think I still prefer Cali cos more varied classes, not solely on yoga. After the session, joined Angie for her late dinner at Bugis Street. Thanks for sending me home too gal!

Bag hunting

Mum intended to purchase a bag, so decided to check out Orchard with her. Started off with Far East, can't locate littlematchgirl outlet there...think only Marina & Plaza Sg has the shop. Checked out Scotts, Tangs, Wisma, Takashimaya and have to head home cos white flag raised by Mum...typical window-shopping trip, perhaps Bugis might be the next bag-hunting location.

Monday, November 07, 2005

Revision day out 2

Met Yifen at Kovan bus stop to proceed to Mcdonald's for revision. Managed to get a corner table cos we were pretty early...Ray joined us slightly later. Besides the afternoon student crowd, the place is relatively quiet. Caught a short nap upon arriving home...real tired *_*

Friday, November 04, 2005

Revision day out 1

Met up with Shuixian to study at NLB, we settled down at level 9, the place was so conducive for studying that I didn't feel hungry even though i only had 2 slices of bread for breakfast, hence skipped lunch. Can learn how to fast there =P A couple was seated opposite us and the guy was so sleepy that he spent more time dozing off then studying, kept commenting it's cold that the gal exchanged her shawl for his jacket...quite funny to see a guy wrapping himself with a shawl sleeping in the library...haha

Wedding anniversary

Met up with Jiahui for a good chat and did some revision at NTU South spine before heading home. (appreciate catching up & the belated birthday gift, thx gal!)

Realised it's my parent's wedding anniversary today...24 years and counting. May all married couples have a blissful marriage and stay true to their vows for each other. =)

What contributes to a long-lasting marriage: Communication & being understanding, Family bond (children), Holidays(optional but no harm giving each other a well-deserved break frm the fast-paced lifestyle if within means) and most importantly Love! ^HJY
There's more to marriage than what i can think of at the moment so feel free to comment.

Shopping stamina

After the trial run on Wed, geared myself for another shopping marathon with Yifen this time with heels to test my limits...Started with Marina Square to hunt for the light blue gown Yifen needed for Janice's wedding...with this aim in mind,we couldn't resist checking out the new stores and trying out some clothes or shoes along the way...that's what makes shopping trips fun; own time own target without having to suffer from human traffic jams.

Refuelled at the new food court, and shortly after we were in the new section of Marina Sq where shops were similar to Far East.Tomato Can has another outlet here...have long liked their bags but at the moment don't really need one. Decided to get a blouse...according to the sales lady, her boss got it recently from Korea during autumn and it's the only one available...her sales tactic worked cos i like the design and haven't seen it elsewhere. Tried jeans frm Levis, Esprit but still find Dorothy Perkins petite range suit me better but in the end, didn't get any cos found a pair of pants frm DP that costs only $23 that fit nicely. Think will probably get a Levis jeans only when i find something that really suits me and i can afford to spend that much.

With some purchases in tow, we headed to Suntec's Daniel Yam. Fitting sessions for Yifen while PA waited patiently and gave some suggestions. Decided to head to Orchard's Tangs before buying. Thanks to the helpful saleswoman, managed to find a suitable gown within budget. Ended today's trip contented. =)

Mixed feelings

Concluded this sem's project (儿童文学教学法小组作业) with Fen-jie today, mixed feelings cos

  • glad that assignments and reports are finally over for this semester, can concentrate on preparing for exams
  • can save the hassle of travelling 4 hrs daily

BUT

  • will miss working with my classmates especially “好妈”(cos of our similar schema, thanks for being patient-bear with my crap; understanding- "invisible communication lines" available most of the time)
  • miss the feeling of putting in effort to produce our own "masterpieces"(精心杰作)despite the tight schedule =P

Thought that lessons will all end by today, but next week there's still a 2hr 文言 lecture on Mon...which i seriously don't mind the travelling cos need to brush up and enjoy learning from 周老师。

Got the chance to venture to a few "unknown" areas in NIE (wireless access lab in blk 5, study room in lib level 4 and classroom of the future tr 69) this semester basically due to 儿童文学 discussion and today's last lesson. Prefer having discussions in WAL and lessons in COTF, cosier & more conducive for interactions. Too bad it's our final year, will hardly get the chance to use these areas again.

Relief from "report constipation"

Finally, after completing the headache-inducing 测试大报告, report constipating syndromes have vanished. Really glad to be able to complete it by Saturday (at the expense of zzz on Fri night and Sat afternoon), so I can enjoy my Sunday before attending 2 more days of school next week. After completing and handing in the teaching of children's literature pair work project on Tuesday, assignments will all be over for this semester.

All the above signals the end of the semester and exams drawing near. Have exactly 1 month from today for the first paper. This year's exam dates are scheduled on the last week of the exam period and there's no break in between...4 papers back to back...hope that my memory storage will not suffer from any virus attack and I'll be able to survive through the papers...quite worried about 文言 so will probably spend more time trying to digest and revising it. Hope to go gyming in between revising period...suffering from withdrawal symptoms as it's been quite some time since I last went....=P

放手

Attended the last CED tutorial today and there was a guest speaker from the Subordinates Court, talking about various issues such as children at risk, divorce etc. Quite ironical for us to hear about divorce cos most of us aren't even married yet...perhaps the hassle of going through a divorce is the deterrant message they are trying to get across.

Quite amusing to note an air of excitement when the lecturer announce that there's a feedback form for us to complete before we leave the class. Normally, we would complete it briskly as there isn't much to comment and wish to leave early. Even in the midst of completing the numerous assignments and presentations for this module, we were already hoping to reflect that it's too demanding and absurd for a 2 AU module to have so many minute details to note.

And the day has arrived for us to air our grievances....Obviously my class aren't the only ones who feel that more improvements could be done with regards to the demands and requirements of the course as most people took some time to complete the forms. Well, tried my best to put across my message as gently as possible yet clearly showing where's the problem...won't want to demoralize the lecturers and endanger others who will be taking the same module next time.

Was on the bus when i heard a woman crying as she was talking on her phone...(she was seated in the adjacent inner seat of the first level of a double deck bus while i was seated on the first seat of the long row on the right) wondering if should offer her tissue but then again, it'll be quite embaressing for her to have gotten the attention of a stranger. Noted that she was ok as she alighted the bus before my stop so should be alright...sometimes people just have to know when and how to let go. Holding on to unhappy thoughts or unhappy relationships aren't going to work. You have to realise that yourself, there's only so much others can assist you. 懂得及时醒悟,该放手时放手就不会那么多烦恼。

Despite the work I have to complete by this weekend, intended to meet up with a friend for a meal and relax before burying myself into the pile of work but didn't get the chance to 偷懒。Should be staying up till 2am before i turn in...

Report constipation

Just completed the moral ed big report...basically left with another big report due on Friday (测试)and another pairwork project (儿童文学)due next week...but really having trouble starting the 测试 report...don't really know how to go about doing it...think have to force myself to start doing it latest by tomorrow...cannot keep putting it off or it'll never be done...>_<

30/00 gathering

After attending my piano lessons, took a train down to Orchard MRT station to meet Jo and Chat before we went down to Fish & Co. in Wheelock Place. Met Harold at Borders and we had to wait for abt 45min before we got to sit down in the restaurant...totally packed. Tza arrived next, followed by Faz and finally Ridzal. After dinner, walked down to Starbucks at Plaza Sg with Jo and Ridzal before we could find a coffee joint with seats. By the time I reached Hougang interchange (1215am), there wasn't any bus, so had to take a cab back home.

22

After a presentation, headed home for dinner and to cut my birthday cake from four leaves. The cake is quite tasty, not too sweet. Unwrapped the gift my classmates got for me...cinnamoroll notebook and a stand for notepad and pen. Sis also got me a cinnamoroll pouch, made a keychain with my name plus an ocha-ken teacup (for display)...seems like this birthday is filled with cinnamoroll stuff. =)

Grapevine

Was in the midst of editing the CED grp reflection report when Josh called...it's already 11+pm and he has yet to get dinner...poor thing...so decided to meet up and go get some food. Self-declared break frm work.

Headed to Grapevine in Kovan...the place was freezing cold but we didn't want to sit outside cos was quite noisy...tried Heineken and Budweiser mix...not much of a difference. The food wasn't as good as expected...i suppose the drinks are the main draw for the people. Intended to treat him but the place didn't accept NETS...and i didn't bring enough cash...so paiseh...owe him 1...Reached home by 5min to 1am. Must be the drink...slept soundly till late morning today.

Will you...?

Heard a few rather creative marriage proposals lately:

1) A lawyer proposed to his dream gal by sending her a writ...charging her with the offence of stealing his heart. Sentenced to a blissful marriage life ever after.

2) The guy hid the ring in 1 of the gashapon “扭蛋”machines in Suntec. Before the date ended, he got his girlfriend to have a go at the machine a few times before the ring was out.

3) A taiwanese guy got 10 thousand people to sign an online well-wishing site which he set up before he propose showing the site to his girlfriend of 10years at an internet cafe.

Any other interesting marriage proposals u've heard of? Do share =)

Seeking motivation

Haven't been blogging cos too buried by reports and preparing for tests coming up next week...Intended to complete more yesterday as i could reach home earlier yet concentration level was real low...vexed cos disturbed and can't complete what i intend to do. *_*

Want to wish Yifen a memorable birthday, hope u like the gift & paiseh abt missing the cake cos afraid u'll comment "怎么辦? 吃那么多,等一下又肥了?" =P

Gotta make the most out of this weekend...back to work now...sigh

Sunset

Received a call in the evening, Josh asking me out for dinner. Within 20minutes, I'm in his Kangoo and off we headed to catch the sunset.

A few men were fishing, 2 families were playing with the sand while far off, there were 2 wedding couples taking photos. It was quite romantic to view the sunset. The sun resembles 咸蛋黄. Frankly the reflection of the sun on the sea waters was quite beautiful...

We went for western food nearby, promised Josh that I won't reveal where's this hideout of his. The food was quite tasty just that the skin of the chicken was really burnt. Oh before I forget, congrats Josh upon receiving your certificate frm TP.

Lunch Treat

Together with Mum, met 三姨 and cousin Rita at Plaza Singapura for lunch cos cousin is offering a treat at Ichiban Boshi. She's been working quite hard and needed a break so took half-day off to meet up for lunch. The food is quite good but regrettably the service a little slow...maybe cos they didn't employ enough waiters/waitresses.

After lunch, we went to 旺角 for coffee and chatting. Rita wanted to check out clothes at U2 and I ended up buying a top too. When we came out of the store, we saw 洪惠芳 being filmed on the travellators. Should be for a new drama. 翁清海 was also there. He's really fit! We headed home by 3+pm. Gotta start on my reports by tmr...haiz....

K 歌

First day of our 1 week break so met Yanxuan, Wanjun, Shuixian, Peishi at Dhoby Ghaut MRT around 1040am to go to Kbox at Paradiz Centre. Sam met us there shortly after we got a room assigned.

Started a 4 hr singing session with K lunch of fried beehoon and ice lemon tea...quite cheap cos in the end, each of us just paid $6.50. Heard Shuixian's voice for the first time...quite funny cos she couldn't help frowning when she starts singing. Had quite a gd time belting out a number of songs. Only pity is that Yanxuan didn't sing much due to her sore throat.

Short day

Lessons ended by 1015am so headed down to Bugis for gyming session. Felt hungry during the train ride but decided to skip lunch and head for the machines once I arrived. Persisted to complete 7000 over strides on a machine before the Bodybalance class at 1pm.Glad that a new stairway within the club has replaced the stuffy 'carpark stairway'. Couldn't resist getting a gashapon featuring a new range of Ochaken collectibles. =P

The Beautiful Butterfly

A touching poem we came across during the BSS visit about autistic kids

I am the child who has a disability,
who cannot do the things that you do.
But that does not mean I am useless,
I have feeling and emotions, just like you.

I can hear the things you are saying,
even though with words I cannot yet speak,
I may not be physically able to do things like you,
but that does not mean I am weak.

I know there are many things about me,
that you simply do not understand,
But please don't shy away from me,
I could use a friend, and a warm helping hand.

I may have a mind that works differently,
Pages in a book - I may flap instead of turn,
But that does not mean you can't teach me,
you might be surprised at just what I can learn.

If you think when I don't cooperate, I'm misbehaving,
And conclude that I'm not disciplined enough,
Please take a moment to consider,
that the road I must travel can be rough.

When you stare at me, point, or start to whisper,
it makes me sad, and I so want to cry ---
Why do you think of me as some crippled caterpillar?
Why can't you see that I'm God's beautiful butterfly?

Balestier Special School Visit

Rushed down from NIE to McNair Road with Mindy and Huili for our CED434 site visit after 12:30pm (luckily we're excused from another module's 13:30-16:30 lessons).

We were brought to observe a class of 8 kids with autism. 2 teachers were conducting the STEP programme while the 3 of us took notes and interviewed 1 of the teachers to gather more information for our presentation and report. We were quite fortunate as the staff there were very friendly and helpful. Left the school by 17:30, feeling quite drained.

More information about the school can be found at

DAS visit

Got the chance to visit the Dyslexia Association of Singapore due to the CED module on Catering to pupils with behavioral and learning problems.
The 2 hr presentation and brief tour of the centre gave us an overview of the difficulties faced by dyslexic children and how the centre helps them.

Common symptoms include:

  1. later than expected speech development
  2. poor vocabularly development
  3. difficulty in reading
  4. difficulty in learning the names of letters or sounds in the alphabet
  5. difficulty in writing
  6. difficulty in learning nursery rhymes and playing rhyming games
  7. confusion of similar letters such as "b","d","p","q","s","z"
  8. confusion of words that look alike "on", "no", "dog", "god"
  9. distractibility
  10. quick forgetters
Quite disappointed to find out that research regarding remediative methods for children having dyslexia in Chinese language is not as extensive when compared to English language.

More importantly, children who have been identified with this neurologically-based specific learning difficulty have to be motivated and determined in helping themselves accept and deal with this learning difficulty positively. Support and understanding from their family, teachers and peers will definitely encourage them to not give up. Famous dyslexics include Albert Einstein, Agatha Christie, Tom Cruise and SM Lee.
For more information, the site to visit is www.das.org.sg

Jackie Chan Sports Club

Despite feeling a little lethargic after class today, decided to check out the fairly new Cali gym in Bugis. Caught a whiff of the distinct smell of the new lockers as i deposited my stuff before starting my workout. There's a few changing cubicles which is different frm the other 2 gyms. Found lotsa new, improved equipments; tried out a few and noted a gd view of the cityhall area buildings at the treadmills corner. Not really used to the narrow staircase linking the 2 levels cos it resembles a carpark stairway, however, the shower rooms are more spacious. I suppose it's cos of the odd hour, there were relatively fewer pple working out. Didn't get to attend any classes cos don't intend to return home late.

Was about to leave when I realised that I've lost my ezlink pass...retraced my steps all the way back to the shower room but still couldn't find it. Approached the auntie who was cleaning the area and was told that someone found it and she'd passed it to her boss. She was really helpful and brought me to look for her boss who passed it to another staff immediately. Realised they are really efficient...& I'll have to remember to empty my pockets before changing. Appreciate the lady who found it and the auntie who helped or I'll have to go through alot of trouble to replace it.

Weekend dinners

Sat: Got to enjoy Lei Garden dinner treat (Rating: 9/10) as Dad's Japanese friend brought his family for a tour. The 2+ yrs toddler had very beautiful eyes, long lashes. Was warned by Dad that he can be rather boisterous but during dinner he behaved relatively well...was quite talkative, playing with the rubber sea creatures they got from Underwater World. He likes the stingray the most, kept holding on to it...chuckles in delight when Dad entertained him by naming the sea creatures correctly in Japanese. He even personified his toys by calling the stingray "a e sensei" (mr stingray), "sa me san" (shark) Interesting eating habits too cos he requested for tomato sauce and white rice...understand that even when his mother cooks other dishes he prefers plain rice, perhaps need to introduce new food in smaller quantities. Tried to recall my basic Jap to understand the conversation between the child & his parents without much success. =P Went for a brief night tour in the city (with Dad as the guide providing them the historical info as we pass by certain landmarks) and short walk at Merlion Park before calling it a night.

Sun: 小叔 & his family is back from Taiwan so had a dinner gathering at the restaurant near Lower Peirce Reservior (Rating: 7/10). The chilli crab with fried 饅頭 & claypot sea cucumber are my personal faves. Since it's the 2nd night of dinner spread, i tried to control & not overeat.

赶场

Had two group presentations back to back with Wanjun & Yifen so had to meet up early in campus to run through the details one last time. Didn't sleep well last night so was pretty lethargic early in the morning but really glad when both our presentations are over. More reports and assignments are piling up...need to start working on them soon.

Fireworks spectacular

Met Josh and his friends (Angela, Yvonne, Ricky & his wife) at Cityhall to catch the firework display. Still had some time so had coffee and chatted at Citylink first. Walked to Esplanade and a huge crowd had already lined the banks of the Singapore river. Some families even had a picnic there!

Luckily we persisted to walk further up, before Sheares Bridge and managed to find a clear spot to catch the action. I took 10 video clips in all but only 8 were satisfactory. Can imagine the amount of fireworks the French team used...The best part of the live action besides enjoying the spectacular view for me would be to hear the expressive awes from the little ones. =) Proceeded to the food court in Raffles City for hot drinks and some snacks before getting a lift back home, thanks to Josh.

Wondering if anyone knows how to upload videoclip here...do teach me how in order to share the clips. Thanks!

MuVo V200

Finally I've my very own MP3 player with direct USB drive...Dad got it as my birthday gift. ^_^ Intended to get from BEST Denki during the National Day offer but luckily checked with Adrian and he helped to get from his friend who's working with Creative. A difference of about $50!

戏剧盒演出

Alighted at Outram Park station to get dinner before heading for 戏剧盒免费社区演出: 论坛剧场 -(1)“大歹纪 ! ”(2) 爱之病 outside Chinatown Point (19:30-22:00) with Wanjun & Shuixian.

Enjoyed the first play better as there were humorous references to local news such as the NKF saga. However, we were seating on straw mats so after some time, could feel legs getting numb and butts getting sore. Can see that it's not easy to perform forum theatre especially when the participating audience might misconstrue the scene content.

National Library

Got a day off from lessons due to NTU Flagday, so took the chance to check out the newly opened central library with Mum. Quite impressed by the huge selections located at the reference levels. Caught two exhibitions of photography works and developments in Singapore. The famous Singaporean calligrapher, Chen Rui Xian was being interviewed by a Chinese reporter at the rare collections section. The nice view from the higher levels left a deep impression. However, the new, taller building lacks a sense of cosiness as compared to the now-demolised Stamford Road central library.

Fireworks Preview

NDP rehearsals meant that spectacular fireworks displays should be available at the finale of the whole performance. Although I have my doubts about catching the fireworks preview as this year's venue is at the Padang instead of Kallang Stadium, I joined my sis gamely to await the "live" show.

The first round of mini fireworks; the appetisers started by 8:05. 2 mega beams of light were noted shining into the skies as the main course; the second round of bigger and more fireworks were being prepared. By 8:30, dessert was served. We left the small window where we caught the live action feeling contented.

Wasted trip: Not

Tried calling the coordinator but couldn't reach him. So had to make a trip to NIE personally. Met Huili on the same bus, by the time Corinne arrived, a queue had formed outside the coordinator's door. Someone remarked that we were like patients in queue waiting to see the doctor for remedies. Sigh...Shortly after Yanxuan arrived, we were next in line and since all of us had the same problem, we went in as a grp.

Once he realised we were Chinese teachers, he started the discussion in Chinese. Think he's frustrated by the complications in the system and having to refer students to different departments. He referred us to the lecturer in charge of the GE; the specialist to enquire. Before leaving, he remarked that the lecturer can't speak Chinese, we'll have to communicate with him in English..."discrimination based on language abilities"? Headed to the next building to try our luck. It's lunch hour and we've not met the lecturer before. Glad to be able to clarify the matter and understand that the first lesson begins on Mon.

Timetable Boo boo

Another day out with Mum in Bugis area, passed by Jackie Chan Sports Club but didn't enter the new gym...new corner in Seiyu Level 3 selling Hush Hush merchandise...the interesting bags caught my attention.

Haven't really been online lately & the recent overcast skies makes me feel like going into hibernation. Can't afford this leisurely lifestyle soon cos new semester beginning next Mon. Yet, timetable still has some problems with regards to GE registered. Hope can clarify the matter with the person-in-charge by tomorrow.

Walk walk

Accompanied Mum to have lunch & check out Novena Square & United Square since we've not been there for sometime, see if there's any changes...Had lunch @ Ichiban Boshi & for the first time was disappointed with the Agedashi toufu...the skin was overfried & the 豆腐 inside tasted more like 豆干. Not much changes to the shops there but noted quite a cool CD shop in United Square...like the decor which resembles a lounge bar.

Quite startled upon my return to find the air-con in my room automatically switched on (waste electricity!!!)...think the remote has some probs..previously without using the timer mode the air-con will stop while the power is on...hope the routine check tomorrow will declare it ok or else need to spend $...

Met Celina to go gyming at Somerset...didn't attend any class just used the machines. Went into the sauna room too, been some time since i last stepped inside.

Had Dim Sum with Mum & 大姨 at Teochew City of Centrepoint. Went shopping in Robinsons and OG before heading home.

Received Jh's sms that she's finally back in Sg...hope to meet up this saturday =)

Completion

Just finished typing in all the data and my eyes are feeling so sleepy, even blinking is real slow. Heading for lunch soon...getting quite sick of the food cos not much of a variety here...at least tmr I don't have to travel all the way here to Boon Lay.

New nephew

Went to my cousin's place to celebrate his newborn's first month...got to view some of Ah Siong kor kor's photographs...really like the tsunami aftermath where a small flower was the shot's focus...the baby boy is named Tze Raye (柯子锐), quite a nice name. Didn't dare carry the baby cos he's so small, perhaps gotta wait till he turns 1 at least. =)

Finally

Just completed the coding for all the 68 groups...whew...a little sense of accomplishment =) Now switching to the brainless task of typing the previous data into Excel.

《冬季恋歌》

Caught the last episode of 《冬季恋歌》 with Mum late last night. Didn't watch the whole drama but Mum told me the summary of the story. Basically the nice sceneries featured in the drama was what made it a real success.

Gathering

Spent a nice evening catching up with some of my NIE classmates yesterday. Tried Yakiniku set in OA (Somerset, row of shophouse with lotsa eateries)...didn't know they cooked it with capsicum..had to put them aside cos don't really take to the strong taste.

We headed for TCC in Cineleisure next. Ordered Macademia Frappe...had a little almond-like taste. Got to try Hazelnut Frappe & Mighty Joe Young (will be a fave for banana lovers) too. Screen-saver mode apparent to Shuixian & Yifen as we took a leisurely stroll to Dhoby Ghaut station.

Grandma's birthday

No piano lesson today (Yamaha holiday) so could join family for lunch & headed to Funan IT Mall, MC2 to collect the NEC laptop Dad ordered from cousin. In the evening, went out for family dinner at a Teochew Restaurant in Amoy Street to celebrate Grandma's birthday. Ate quite a lot today...gd appetite =P

Dizzy

Felt slightly dizzy as I tried waking up early today for the long awaited gym trip. Figured it's the accumulation of insufficient sleep over the week. Decided to get more rest before spending a gd afternoon with Mum going to different malls in Orchard as planned earlier.

Waiting

Waiting eagerly just outside the glass door, craning necks & anxious eyes of numerous teenage gals...must be waiting for their idol/s arriving in Sg. Imagine catching a glimpse of their fave idol after the long wait...but like what sis pointed out, wouldn't the wait be in vain if special arrangements are made for a secret passage out of the airport?

Young toddler leaves her tiny finger prints on the glass panels as mummy tells her where to spot daddy. Daddy whips out his digicam & takes a shot to capture the wide smile on baby girl's face.

Eager to spot their loved ones, those in wait line the glass panels, blocking the view of those seated. Between the gaps, I scan the crowd for that familiar face. The moment I stood up, my eyes met the one we've been waiting for. Must admit, there's slight glee for being the one to spot him first. Thank goodness, baggage collection was brief & we were spared the pandemonium.

Deliberation

Had some problems logging into the globalkc site so decided to check the portal for upcoming semester's modules info...

Looking through the list of modules, especially the general electives; seems like I'm spoilt for choices yet sense of uncertainty lurks...will my lucky stars shine & allow me to select a GE where there's no clashes with other modules? Advice needed >_<

LOST

Caught the TV premiere of 《LOST》with Dad last night...captivating, suspense-filled drama. Reminds me of a GP essay I wrote sometime back about one's greatest fear: Fear of the unknown. Should be tuning in every Thursday 10pm unless something else crops up. Here's the weblink http://ch5.mediacorptv.com/lost5/ (courtesy of Mediacorp Channel 5) for those who wish to know more. (",)

Breathe Out

Dragged my lazy bones to gym early in the morn, attended Yoga Therapy for the first time...realised it's not my cup of tea: focus more on diaphragmatic breathing techniques (expelling carbon dioxide within one's body) which if one can't follow, might end up turning blue in the face...The trainer also mentioned some yoga terms which really sound strange to novices like me...(6_6') At least the workout at some of the machines made me feel that today's trip wasn't wasted.

Met Yunny for lunch at Marche, had a nice chat before window-shopping at Heeren & Far East. Glad that she has settled down since the last time we talked on the phone. Parted by 3pm cos I had to head down to MCYS to collect the volunteer identification card. The bus captain was driving at a relatively fast speed & I was unsure of the actual stop, so alighted 1 stop before the correct 1...more exercise for the day to compensate for previous slacking...=P

Dreamweaver

Caught the same NEL train coincidentally as Jo...i had to alight @ Serangoon station to wait for Shuixian while Jo was heading for work.

The female trainer for Dreamweaver MX was very patient & kept repeating certain procedures as she guided us through the course. The programme is quite interesting & has lotsa functionality...too bad it's only a beginners' course so there's only so much we can learn for 1 day. The shortcut functions & IT-idiot proof icons can make creating a site a dream come true but the lack of practice may be a nightmarish experience.

After lunch, restlessness crept in & at 1 point in time, Shuixian unintentionally made a "tsk" sound which was heard in the quiet lab. Both Shunting & myself had to suppress our laughter as we thought it's her expression of annoyance with the slow pace of lesson but she later clarified that she was actually eating a sweet.

Point to note: don't suck on sweets while attending a relatively quiet lesson. =P

Grading

Attended the 1st lesson with the new piano teacher this evening...impression: focus on minute details, high expectations. She mentioned something which repeatedly resonated in my mind..."It's not the grade that a person is learning; it's the grade the person is playing that matters." Looks like I've to work really hard to achieve her standards & pray hard that with the new semester I can still cope ('_')

Day 1 of experiencing the luxury of working at home...efficiency rate in observation stage. Data to be recorded in soft copy so alternating between the various screens a greater hassle than before...need to get used to it.

"Attention all passengers

due to a technical fault, this train will have to stop operation. All passengers please board the next train at the next station. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

For the first time, Yifen & myself was with the morning rush hour crowd & was slightly delayed. The next train that arrived at Bukit Gombak was fully packed & we could only wait for the following one. As we entered the train, I became literally the sandwiched "cheese" (wearing this colour). A minor jam along the Jalan Bahar stretch didn't help me to be punctual for the Publisher class. Samantha registered for the same class, noticed that she's quite fast in learning; her proficiency in IT must have helped. The trainer's quite friendly, adopting the relax style. More hands-on practices were carried out, quite useful program with lotsa ready templates for quick designs. Class ended by 3pm so could join Yifen for more data coding before we knocked off at 5pm. Went to Jurong Point with Yifen to purchase some camp stuff & borrow some children chinese books.

29:05

Mum's annual gathering with her ex-sch mates meant that it's a sisters' day out for us. Had to attend my last piano lesson with Mr Ng while Ying waited patiently before our Sun "adventure" begins...

10:45 Sisters spotted window-shopping at Plaza Sg several clothing & gift outlets, checking out new items, observing the Sunday crowd, deftly avoiding Bodyshop Sale sign thereby resisting temptations to enter into the "start buying mode"

12:00 Decided to "fuel up" at Ichiban Boshi & enjoy some chatting before the real fun begins

13:25 Walked down to Takashimaya, observing the Great Singapore Sale customer draws along the way. *embaressing moment: saw a guy's retractable clip fell frm his pocket, bent down to pick up but huge bag bumped into another guy who was too close on my left...had to apologise & quicken my pace to tap 1st guy to return his clip cos he had his headphones on. Noted 2 men trying to capture orchard road images using highly sophisticated digital camera perched on tripods, Ying analyze might be for a nearby Canon digicam promotion booth

13:40 Sheltered from downpour in the comfort of Ngee Ann City & library...fascinated by showcase of photojournals by youths on projects overseas (YEP), creative approach of letting public to rearrange different photoshots on the main storyboard. Kinokuniya's stationary section & Sanrio's corner in Taka was not to be missed.

15:00 Ying game to walk all the way to Cityhall & the sight-seeing begins ^_^

16:10 Reached SAM, decided to check out the galleries...didn't regret the visit cos the "Blink!" exhibition showcased very creative & interesting art pieces...had lotsa fun taking shots using Ying's hp.

17:30 Met Mum at Cityhall control station, headed for dinner @ Suntec's 品味小吃

18:45 Enjoyed the night scenery at Fountain of Wealth while Mum & sis savor Swenson's yam ice-cream (resisted the temptation)

20:15 Home Sweet Home

A Beautiful World

"Nothing's ever for sure, that's the sure thing I know."

This poignant quote caught my attention as I watched "A Beautiful Mind". It sums up the uncertainties everyone face everyday and Alicia's belief in John is the simple faith that help give both of them strength to overcome the struggles they face.

The preoccupation in pursuing one's dreams may make one neglect what's important in life...ok this may sound pretty contradictory cos some may argue that their dream is the most important thing in their life...BUT...During the pursuit, do you realize that you may be neglecting the simple things in life? Sacrificing the time to revel in nature's glory, failing to notice the people who really matter, etc...

I suppose at any one point in time everyone has a goal or dream to fulfill that motivates himself or herself to find meaning in life...Just wish to share that one should try to strike a balance, to not become too focus in the pursuit and forget to enjoy the process with things or people who really matter.

*Pardon my incoherence as I type this with a slight throbbing headache*

Reunion

Called my Sup in NIE and collected my practicum "treasure". Finally reunited with the owner. Feedback were brief...given that he's busy with research and meetings:

More confidence needed to try out new methods as beginning teacher and to be mentally prepared to overcome situational probs in schs individually...sharing sessions and observing how the experienced teachers work will benefit but there's only so much people can instruct, the rest is up to me. Motivation and passion for learning is the essence of it. *nods*

Realised that weather mirrors mood somehow...kinda miss gym class.

Back to "Headquaters"

Met Yifen to return to NIE for a briefing of a project...thanks Fen-jie for offering this opportunity so that we can resume our "duties" as the teabreak sisters and I won't "laze around" at home =P

Quite impressed by my YEP thai trip pals whose graduating artworks were displayed in the art gallery...very interesting themes and lotsa artpiece were showcased this time round.

Found out that Beng is the Art director of 29:05...lotsa hardwork went into the exhibition but think it's worth all their effort. Plan to make another trip to check out some artworks which we missed out today.

Starting my "engine" proper to not let this hols go to waste...scheduling events to keep myself occupied =)

Gone...jap restaurant

The nice jap restuarant beside Taka's Cold storage has been replaced by another jap restaurant; ajisen sushi...so sad! Gonna miss the chawanmushi...

Wonder if the original restaurant has moved somewhere else...was checking the restaurant's add and realised that it's similar to the Crown Prince Hotel's jap restaurant!

Had the chance to savor the authentic jap food at the Crown Prince Hotel's jap restaurant a few weeks ago. Really had a very fulfilling dinner cos every dish was so delicious! It was mentioned that our Singapore's president, SR Nathan uses the same room when he visits the restaurant!

Guest instructor

Headed to the gym in the morn to attend Hip Hop class (basic) but didn't find it as interesting as before...

Attended the following Bodycombat class with Celina, where there was a guest instructor, Michelle Dean. She's really toned and can see that her punches are packed with power.

Had lunch and checked out some stores at Far East before heading back around 3+pm.

Pouring

Headed to the gym early to attend Bodybalance...was just in time for class but sad to say, today's lesson wasn't as satisfying as before..maybe it's the combi (movements and music) but still like the instructor's style.

Tried Cardio kick...gosh...no joke...was soon perspiring like the relentless rain that ensued in the afternoon...met Jo briefly at Taka's Venezia but she gotta work so I headed to Far East alone...the capsule shop which we visited before wasn't open...=(...after a simple lunch and a little window-shopping, took a long bus ride back home...along the way saw quite a few roads getting pretty flooded.

Caught the evening news which reported our ex-president, Mr Wee Kim Wee's funeral...indeed, our people's president's demise gave all a chance to learn of how he had touched people from all walks of life...tears flow freely as he left us, yet he'll be fondly remembered.

Attended 3 gym class back to back starting frm 8:10am...maybe can say gyming with a vengence...(",)

Met up with some of my long-missed classmates for Sakae buffet...interesting stories frm our practicum made us bowl over with laughter & attracted curious stares frm others quite a few times =P Now we understand why one of the lecturer mentioned “当一群人说话和笑得很大声时,他们很可能是教师。”Really had a gd time sharing our experiences and catching up...=)

~解脱~

Started feeling excited late last night, upon completion of my reports...know that once i hand in all my reports and the heavy practicum file today, holidays can be officially declared ^_^

Headed back to our "headquarters" early in the morning and by noon was able to enjoy lunch with a senior, who shared her teaching experience..really treasure learning opportunities from all and i'm not going to let this long holidays go to waste!

HPS Last day

Taught my p3 & p5 class for the last time today...it's the end of our 1st practicum and coincidentally, it's the sch's international friendship day...Like a grand finale, there's celebration yet a sense of lost...

Mentally prepared myself and my students for my departure since Wednesday...my p3 students, being kids were more concerned abt getting the small bookmarks i prepared for them & playing with their friends..pretty rowdy bunch but i still believe there's little angels within them...was touched by my p5 students who prepared simple gifts or left their contacts for me even tho i felt that i could have taught them better..they wrote down my email add hurriedly and even asked for my signature on the personalised cards i gave them as if i'm a star...haha hope i've "lighted" their lives in some small ways...the only regret is that i didn't get the chance to take photographs with my students or my cooperating teachers...all busy with today's programmes.

The bittersweet memories of these 8 weeks will definitely be etched in my mind for a long time...now it's back to completing exam reports before holidays can be officially declared for us!

Tremor

Around 7:10pm, I felt myself swaying from side to side as i sat in front of my pc typing...thought it's just me feeling dizzy but when i saw my small whiteboard and other ornaments in my room swaying, i knew there must have been another earthquake. Even the water in our fishtank had "waves"...reminds me of Jurassic Park (*_*)

True enough, news on SCV reported the 6.7 magnitude quake could be felt in Singapore. Hope that not too many people are hurt this time round and lesser properties damaged...

Spa Wisdom event

Attended the Bodyshop Spa Wisdom talk at Centrepoint Atrium with sis. Reached there slightly earlier so went to 7-eleven to check out the Sanrio collection...bought the last My Melody long ruler available there and topped up the balance (with sis getting smth)to get a Hello Kitty magnet.

Before the talk, we were approached by one of the promoters-Zura at the counter and was treated to free hand scrubs and hand massages with the new range of spa products...(^_^)

The guest speaker- Arti gave a DIY Spa talk and introduce the new range of Bodyshop Spa Wisdom products...learnt quite abit and was very tempted to get more than 1 item...my sis who was extremely tempted didn't help much...in the end, i was the one who actually managed to be practical and not buy more than we need...how ironical (*_*)

After the Bodyshop shopping extravaganza--didn't expect to spend that much ('x'), we headed for lunch at Le Meridien foodcourt...along the way, got 3 more Sanrio stamps from 7-eleven. The Korean food was real tasty...value for $. Shared lunch and dessert-peach yami yogurt with sis before going to Music Essentials to find my piano exam scores. Managed to buy the Chopin Polonaise piano book, hope it's the right one.

Took the bus back home cos didn't wanna get squashed in the train. Had fish head curry dinner cooked by parents...feel so full!
