Have yet to find the name of the melody though =P

Stranger Than Fiction

Interesting plot where the novelist actually meets with her character in real life...she couldn't bear to "kill" him and the tragedy ends up a comedy.

Finally the skies have cleared...appreciate the warm sunshine.
Thanks Grace for arranging this meeting.

New beginning

Reported to the new school this morning for briefing and meeting by the senior teacher, Mrs Chow. Met the Principal and vice-principal. Apparently, the VP lives near me (opposite Hougang Point).

The first impression of the school I got was that it was huge...and I mean really mega-school...the corridors are similar to HGPS but the four blocks of building are quite tall. Wondering how I'm gonna "fly" from one class to the other when school term begins.

Managed to leave the school by 1pm. Decided to go shopping in town, Delong gamely accompanied me. Was quite hungry so went to Sushi Tei and he gave me a treat cos he was late (again). Managed to borrow several Jimmy (taiwanese author) books. Walked over to Far East and got a good deal: 2 knitted blouse for $29.90.

Took the bus back together by evening time. =)

*Managed to find out that he was the one who's "santa claus"

Mysterious sender

Received through mail the book I was talking about a few posts ago《可不可以不要上班》
First time in my life have to guess who the sender is cos the person wrote down "FROM: YOU-KNOW-WHO-I-AM"...how i know? (=_=)
Proceeded to decipher handwriting...not Hao ma leh...my next guess, Jiahui...unlikely, she'll normally pass it personally...final guess: Santa Claus / Santarina
Message for you: Thank you for the gift...it's really funny! (^_^)
Do reveal your identity if you chanced to read this ok?

Hotel Phoenix High tea

Met Yanxuan, Sam and Peishi to have high tea over at Hotel Phoenix Garden Cafe. Thought that the hotel was located at Dhoby Ghaut at first. It's actually over at Somerset.

There wasn't alot of food selection. But we ate till we were quite full...there was a queue for those who didn't make reservations. There was a newspaper promotion, 1 for 1 that's why there were alot of aunties who came for the high tea.

Took the bus back home and actually dozed off on the bus.

Sheerin's wedding

Went to Sheerin's wedding over at Little India. Met Suzana and Rosman...Rosman mentioned that the Surin trip was the most wonderful experience he ever had...quite touching to hear that. Sheerin commented that I've lost quite alot of weight.

Went to Plaza Sg quite early...around 2+pm i was there waiting for my lesson at 5pm already.

Sushi Buffet

Met up with Yanxuan and Shuixian over at Kovan Heartland Mall to have the sushi buffet over at Sakae Sushi. Used our student passes to get the student price of $13.90.

Managed to find the swimming cap for the hot spring trip. Find it quite pointless actually...but since it's under $3 for one just get for each of my family.

Nice evening

Met up with Dave at Cityhall around 625pm to walk over to CHIJMES to try out SUN. Prefer the decor over at Wheelock Place though. Ordered Unagi and Aragi Kamameshi...the serving was a little too big for me to finish...also ordered warabimochi for dessert.

Walked over to Esplanade and was treated to a free harp performance. Went to Max Brenner cafe and tried the Suckao...quite a unique container and the metal straw was also quite special.

Took the long bus ride home with Dave and got home just before 11pm.

Corrinne May

Saw the tv advertisement about Corrinne May's Christmas album...her voice is really nice and really suited to sing Christmas songs. Visited her website to listen to the songs...http://www.corrinnemay.com/safe/flash/index2.htm

Japanese food

Met up with Grace for lunch at Sun with Moon over at Wheelock Place. Tried the unagi bento and mushroom pot set. It's the first time i tasted soup so thick and starchy...quite filling also. We also ordered the warabimochi and also the tofu cheesecake.

Went over to Wisma and Takashimaya to look for clothes. Didn't manage to find anything we like. Walked over to Paragon for tea over at the Japanese Soba restaurant. The fried Hokkaido smelt was quite tasty. It's quite a good deal for the japanese tea as it's $5 with a dessert and drink (before service charge that is).

Couldn't resist getting an intensive eye treatment over at Green Sanctuary. There's a 20% discount due to the festive season. Intended to meet up with Karan but he was so caught up with work that we didn't manage to meet. Went to Sushi Tei over at Takashimaya for dinner. There was quite a crowd and had to wait awhile before they gave me a counter seat.

Met Dave briefly before he went off to meet his uni friends. Will be meeting him next thursday for dinner in Cityhall.

Novena Square Jackie Chan Sports Club

Met Celina in Novena to go to the gym, the layout of the gym was rather small, with only 2 studios, one for the normal workouts and the other for the cycling studio.

Wasn't really motivated to use the machines, perhaps it's been awhile since i last visited the gym...there wasn't any classes to attend as well cos the trainers were attending a course.

We left by 4+pm and checked out the shops in Novena Square. There wasn't much to see also. Decided to give Karan a call and we met up in Bishan to get coffee at Coffeebean. Afterwhich we had a late dinner at Jalan Kayu before he sent me home.

大扫除

The past few days have been spent cleaning up my room...there's so much stuff yet so little room!!!

The dust also made me sneeze like crazy, slowing down my packing process.

Till now, there's still a few boxes of things i need to sort out but really getting sick of packing...need to take a break before starting again.

Yanxuan's wedding dinner

The day has finally arrived...my first NIE classmate's wedding dinner. Arranged to meet Yifen and Wanjun at Serangoon mrt station to go there together. Waited for Jianming and Huili at Harbourfront station before walking over to 88 restuarant together.

Sam and Corinne were among the sisters' at the reception. Managed to view the wedding photos before going to our designated table. A pity Peishi, Shuduan, Yuanlin and Mindy weren't present or the whole NIE class would be there.

Before the dinner started, there was a slideshow sharing the couple's moments and we guessed that Yanxuan must have been the one doing it as there's some resemblance with her presentations during our NIE days...=P

As usual, Liyin started cracking jokes and we kept laughing throughout the dinner. When it was our turn to take photos and offer a toast to the couple, we actually shouted "yammmmm suannn" instead of the usual "yam seng" but had to do it twice as Yanxuan didn't catch it the first time round. =D

Staff dinner

Was pouring heavily in the early afternoon when I received Joslyn's call that the class server training time has been brought forward...had to rush down to school and was drenched a little.

After the training, went home to change for tonight's dinner. The theme was "Madhatter's night" so had to bring a hat...borrowed one from sis but didn't really need to wear it.

Took the school bus with most of the staff there. It was a buffet-style dinner at Sijori resort in Sentosa. Awards were given, some teachers were sabotaged to go onstage for the games and lucky draw conducted. Managed to reach home before 11pm as we alighted at Compasspoint before the school bus went back to school.

《Helen The Baby Fox》

Watched this touching movie with sis today...the plot is fairly simple but the bond shared between the boy and the baby fox was so strong that audience will be easily moved.

The baby fox cannot see, hear and even bark initially. So the boy, Taichi names it Helen, after Helen Keller, the first blind, deaf and mute woman who was able to communicate using the sign language. Helen responds to Taichi's devoted caring efforts and begins to strive for live, in spite of her frail body.

Scenic and picturesque Hokkaido served as the shooting ground of the movie...breath-taking scenes especially those with flowers were my favourites.

Quoteworthy scene:

Vet: “你会写辛苦的辛吗?”
Vet:“加了太一 (boy) 的一,就变成幸福的幸。”
Vet:“是太一带给海伦 (fox) 幸福。”

New hairstyle

Been some time since I intended to go for a haircut, but due to work can only arrange to go today.

For the first time in a long long while, I couldn't really bear to part with my long hair.

Quite satisfied with the results cos the hairstylist was quite skilful. =)

Holidays are here!!!

Besides the students, teachers are also in a good mood as it's finally time to enjoy the well-deserved break...

Although I did relief teaching for most of the final term, have grown attached to some of the students and I'll miss some of them.

Next week there'll be some meeting and training but at least for this weekend can relax. =)

Haze

The air condition is really bad...each day the problem persists...

Don't even have to look far to notice the hazy skies...really pity those with respiratory problems...must be having a hard time.

Even my eyes are getting the effects of the haze...feel so tired most of the time, as though I can hardly open them.

The PSI is always hovering around the 100 mark...wonder when the haze will be over and clear skies will be back...

Bodyshop warehouse sale

After school, went to Suntec Hall 401 for the Bodyshop Warehouse Sale. The place was quite big but there wasn't much items on sale.

Almost fainted when I saw the Bodybutter set going for only $29.90. I got mine for $60 plus!!! Can buy two!!! Helped sis get a mango set while I got an empty Grapeseed container for only $5. There were also miniature versions of SPA wisdom range which of cos I can't resist.

Was fooled by the packing lady...she was supposed to give me free sample of SPA wisdom body mask. She even asked me to check the bag which I didn't...haiz, should have...got home to realise she didn't include the free sample.

Was feeling quite tired so was dozing off in the bus on my way back.

Lunch out

After sorting out the chinese cards and storybooks in the HOD room...decided to get lunch with Joslyn at Compasspoint together.

We had Sakae Sushi and the food was served rather slowly...waited quite long for my soft-shell crab...so hungry...

Intended to get stickers but didn't managed to find any cute ones. Pepperplus was having a sale and managed to get the above top for only $11. Sis thinks it looks awful though...haha. Reached home by 3:30pm and was feeling quite drowsy...think maybe it's the haze...the air quality is still quite lousy.

Caught a nap since there wasn't anything I needed to do. =P

Leisure sunday

Had Bak Kut Teh with family for lunch before heading for Orchard. Went to Robinsons and John Little with family before going to Takashimaya on my own.

Found two pencils with mini animal stamps at the top...and they are not pricey at all. Spotted the 2007 Cinnamoroll schedule book but have yet to buy one. Went to Kinokuniya to check out the stationery section but nothing caught my eye.

Managed to find out from Taka's Bodyshop that the outlet in Scotts still sells the Mango body butter gift set that I've been searching for. Walked down to the store quickly and decided to buy the last Mango set available there. It's already a discounted item so can't use my birthday month's 20 % discount nor the rebates.

Went to Isetan supermarket next and found a new chocolate with chestnut flavour. Decided to buy a box to try as it's only $2.20. The chocolate is quite nice.

Walked over to Wheelock Place next and couldn't resist the gashapon machine with Cinnamoroll clips.

Met Weiming around 5 plus pm and we had dinner at Sakae Sushi. Took a brief walk in Borders before taking the bus back home.

Vivocity

Met Delong at Hougang MRT around 1140am. Bumped into Jiahui with her mum and sis at the train station.

Headed for Vivocity at Harbourfront. Although the place is huge but there wasn't much interesting stuff...quite a pity. Branded boutiques took up most of the space and there are 3 foodcourts: Kopitiam, Banquet and Food republic. Since there wasn't much stuff to check out here, we decided to go to Suntec.

Had ThaiExpress lunch at Citylink, the Tom Yum soup was quite spicy...think their chilli is free...the pineapple rice also tasted different...surprisingly on a Saturday afternoon, Suntec was relatively less crowded. Checked out the gashapon machines but nothing fancy caught my eye. Bought Yami yogurt before taking bus 700 to Dhoby Ghaut.

Managed to get the wedding gift and baby gift for my colleagues at More Than Words. Saw the cute baby pooh speaker soft toy at Action City and Delong bought it as a belated birthday gift for me. =)

Ah...chew...

Perhaps it's the haze but most probably some virus in the staffroom that got to me...shortly after arriving in school today, kept sneezing and showed cold symptoms...

Unfortunately, i didn't bring panadol cold tablets with me and the school office or sick bay doesn't have any either. Have to fight off drowsiness and the sneezing to relief some classes.

Couldn't stand the sneezing and had to ask the VP for permission to leave the school earlier. Left by 530pm and took the bus to Tampines.

Met Jiahui and we intended to eat at Sakae Sushi, however the long queue put us off. We settled for Genki Sushi instead. The food wasn't very fresh and think the both of us felt we won't want to eat there anymore.

Left for home around 9 plus pm...real tired out.

It's over

After 6 months, it's over...I'm back to singlehood.

Somehow, I've sensed it coming...been seeing lesser of each other, no frequent updates through calls or sms...

Perhaps it's better this way...

《I am Sam》

Last minute changes to sat plan, don't really like it but have to be understanding...sigh...need to eat out and attend piano lessons, hence went out with mum & sis. Quite a few shops in Heeren have changed since my last visit. Even the gelato stall where I met a fellow aj gal in Starhub food centre is also gone! To see Orchard road decorated with a myriad of colours from the blooming flowers (due to IMF conference) and Serangoon road preparing for Deepavali's decoration were the highlights of my day. (part of 139 bus route to toa payoh interchange from bus stop in front of dhoby ghaut long john silvers) =)

Met one of my p4 students at PC X-Zone at Dhoby Ghaut mrt station...she must be wondering why a teacher is there...haha, passed by the shop and wanted to see the gashapon machines.

Reached home and caught this movie...the immense love and bond between the child and the autistic father touches one to tears...

《Love comes slowly》

Intended to pack my things but sis had to do project in the study room with her classmate, so chanced to catch this touching and heart-warming movie on Hallmark Channel this afternoon. Here's some info I found on the hallmark channel website:

Love Comes Softly is based on the first installment of the successful franchise of eight Love Comes Softly novels from writer Janette Oke. Most of Ms. Oke's books are themed around the inspirational message that fortitude and faith can bring one through life's circumstances – both the bad and the good.

Marty Claridge is a young woman reluctantly headed west with her husband, Aaron to start a new life. A runaway horse kills Aaron suddenly, leaving Marty far from home and in a sea of strangers. Adrift in her tragedy, Marty has no means of caring for herself until Clark offers to marry her and care for her until she can return to the East. Clark needs a mother for his ten-year-old daughter who is determined to foil all of Marty's attempts at kindness. In a place where all hope seems lost, Marty discovers love is found in the most unlikely of places.

SCTU course

Spent 3 days attending the Singapore Chinese Teachers' Union reading club course at Sims Avenue Centre. Besides Yifen and her colleagues, met Corinne on the second day of the course.

The course is very enriching: the picture books and activities introduced to encourage students to cultivate the love for reading were the highlights for me. The planning part was quite tedious as we have to apply what the lecturer taught almost immediately. The concept is to structure questions that guide students to share more and be involve in discussions during a reading club session.

Bought 3 books and have to control my spending cos the picture books, especially Jimmy's (taiwanese) were very attractive. =P

Pepper Lunch

After school, went to meet Mum and sis at Compasspoint library before going to Hougang Mall for lunch. Tried Pepper Lunch's beef pepper rice set...think maybe cos it's piping hot and was also quite hungry, finished the food quite fast.

Walked around Hougang Mall and noticed the new food section (small restaurants) on level 2. Saw Andy Lau's new album at Sembawang music store but didn't buy yet. It's a cantonese album that's why didn't really see any publicity in the news. Noted the website of andyworldclub: www.awc618.com I like the home page where Andy Lau is in a pilot's uniform...looks so dashing!

Was about to leave the mall and i was looking at the Mcdonald's ty bear when this guy literally walked right into my path and we did bumped into one another lightly...luckily he moved aside and both of us muttered sorry. First time so sotong...didn't see a person right in front of my path.

Waited quite long for the bus and by the time we got home, was super tired...(last night slept only abt 4+hr).

Bodyshop offering star loyalty member a 30% discount on regular items till this sunday...gonna go shopping tmr =)

Celebrity day

Alvin bought lunch for me as I was still coughing and would be better to take my medication at home instead of bringing it out.

Went to Far East to try to look for something glittery that suits the dinner on 1 sept. Was looking for a handheld evening bag but nothing caught my fancy.

Reached plaza sg to find a huge crowd near the centre stage. OSIM invited their spokesperson, Louis Koo. He is really dashing and lotsa people, young & old, male or female were literally squeezing their way to get a photo shot of him. Some even tried to barge into the area when he was posing at the massage chair, but was stopped by the event personnels. There's a OSIM board near the massage chair and if the security personnels didn't warn the fans, think might have crashed onto Louis Koo's head cos it was shaky.

He went backstage after the photoshoot and Sharon Au came out. She was quite friendly and even chatted with some of the aunties. After she left, the crowd waited in anticipation for Louis Koo to leave the backstage. I was standing near the escalator and realised that he would be coming up as there were photographers stationed near the second floor escalators. True enough, close to 5pm, he came out and was escorted to the OSIM store located on the second floor. Lotsa people followed behind with digicams and hp cameras capturing him.

Tried to get a close-up shot of him while he was on the escalator but my hp camera was on some standby mode and was too slow to react...-_-

Only managed to get a 3 images of him being interviewed, posing at the massage chair and also coming out of backstage. Here's the advertisement photoshoot from the OSIM website:

Long way back

Went back to our “娘家”after sch today, thought need to apply leave personally for my piano exam but apparently after prac period, i just need to inform the school. @_@

Some noticeable changes:

  1. Interchange has shifted to opposite side of mrt. Long walk to 179,199 queue..extreme end to cater to the queues during the hectic hrs.
  2. New activity centre where the art gallery was for SLC and other club activities.
  3. New blocks constucted to halls of residence closer to NIE.

Took Shuttle bus C to medical centre. Could have walked there but decided to try out the shuttle bus route and also to "re-visit" the campus life. Managed to leave by 4pm and not bump into the working crowd after office hours.

Retail therapy for the bargain hunter

As you can see, it's been ages since the last time I've blogged...been too busy with teaching and dating of cos..haha

Long hours at work (both in sch and at home) has reinstated me as the Singapore Panda Club manager. Last friday was the only day I gave myself a break after school (since the hols) to meet Jiahui to go to Concourse and also Bugis. Had dinner at Concourse in a Japanese restaurant called Yamagawa. Tasty authentic jap food is the best! Went there to buy some gifts for my students and after dinner we checked out the new shopping mall called Icon at Bugis. The shops there are really small, about 3 customers will packed a shop.

Spotted a very nice dress and decided to go back on Saturday to get it as they only accept cash payment. Managed to get it at $68 (original $72.90). Quite pricey but I really liked the design, the material, everything about it...it even has a slimming effect!!!

There's also a gashapon collection shop where the lady boss is very nice. We even exchanged our little gashapon collection craze experiences...=P
Can get past editions and also sell extras if the boss thinks customers might want them.

Saturday went to visit Alv as he's not too well. Went to Bugis (to get the dress) and Plaza Sg (piano) to get some shopping done. Managed to get a dorothy perkins' top going for $16 due to the end of season sale. Need to start looking for a tube top or spagghetti top for my dress as it has a plunging neckline. I even started grocery shopping in Carrefour after my lesson! There's some interesting new products like the Japanese fish and French cheese garlic spread.

Didn't feel well on Sunday so stayed home to do my work and Alv came for lunch and to accompany me. =)

Went to Suntec alone after completing my work yesterday as I wanted to look for the tube/spagghetti top. Managed to get a brown spagghetti top that is like a mini dress. Quite interesting on it's own as well. The rest were either too lacey or the material didn't match. Tried out a few pieces of clothing at the Mango sale but nothing really caught my eye. Bought a dark green polo top for $20 from a China brand shop. Like the comfortable material. The pink and white also looks good but the material is too translucent.

There were alot of new gashapons...of cos I have to spend on some of them...quite lucky today, managed to get the designs i fancy upon the first try. Bought cinnamoroll jelly from Sanrio store as it has a cute pouch and is at half-price. Went to Carrefour to get some foodstuff before taking the long bus ride home.

Went to Northpoint by taking bus 83 after the meeting today. Found the Esprit store that sells out of season, discounted stuff. Managed to find a pair of khaki pumps with a very ladylike design, going for $39. The usual price was $129.90 as it's all leather (cowhide). Spotted a nice jacket going for $29 but in the end just got the shoes.

Choir Concert rehearsal

Alot has happened lately but too busy and tired to blog...went to the Singapore Conference Hall for the first time today (or so i thought, parents told me that I went there for my first piano practical exam when i was like 8?) with the choir teacher and students. The instructor and pianist met us there but we had to wait for quite sometime at the lobby as the personnels and holding rooms were not ready.

There were 9 schools altogether and some were in their costumes, while others in their school uniform. The kids started getting restless as time passes, finally around 2+pm, we could move to the backstage and have the students get into positions.

After the first dry run, they simulated a real rehearsal and I got to hear the different choirs sing. Some songs were not heard as I had to assist the teacher and ensure that the students know where to go. All these choirs got gold or gold with honours at this year's Singapore youth festival competition and they were really quite entertaining. It was quite an interesting and enriching experience. Free preview of an impressive concert, and a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes too =P

Teach

Guess what...Jh is applying for pgde program! Seems like all my close pals are all in teaching!

Jo will be teaching in a secondary school soon...Fen-jie in a primary school and Jh is joining NIE soon...gosh...hope Jh gets what she sets out to do and may she find teaching fulfilling and rewarding.

Blur princess

Super sotong...supposed to have a gathering with my YEP Little Miraclers last evening but I conveniently forgot all about it...recalled that they mentioned about a gathering so checked the yahoogroups and realised that it was yesterday! So paiseh...

Watched the National Geographic program I was talking about and they featured "Glacier Bays", more on the natural habitats and could see eagles, bears and fishes. The sceneries taken were breath-taking...think it's too secluded for humans to go there which is good so that it can be left as it is and not be disturbed or polluted.

Hidden Genders

Caught this documentary on National Geographic Channel just now...the topic was on trans-sexuals and how they live in their societies. The documentary featured 2 trans-sexuals from India and Thailand each. In India, they are called Hijras (castration is necessary for them to become one) and in Thailand they are known as Katoeys (sex change is often necessary).

In India, they have 7 such clans with a matriach each to take care and control the other hijras. They are known to be able to bless or curse others due to their nature. They will go to different families to find out if a newborn has arrived then they will begin their blessing ritual and earn their customary money. However, they are now often regarded as beggers as they will even go to shops or approach people in their vehicles for money. If these hijras don't get what they want, they will abuse or curse these people. They often work as prostitutes (offering their services for men who cannot afford real women) and are not offered alot of jobs as people despise them. Each year, they have a festival where they gather to celebrate their identity but at the end of the 5 days, the festival ends with sorrow as they become "widows" of their fate.

The documentary managed to interview one hijra who is actually a village political leader. They voted for this person because they believe that without a family, this person will devote time and effort to help the community and has since gained support and respect from quite a number of people. Although when there are political events, others will pronounce the hijras' arrival, they actually think that it is a joke and are scornful of the hijra. The people's intention was to mock the political leaders with regards to saying their incompetence in helping the community hence they had the idea of voting for a hijras, but in the end, the joke became real.

In Thailand, where there is greater acceptance, Katoeys generally work in the entertainment industry. They even have their own shows where people pay them to perform. The famous Toom was filmed as she returned to her hometown as a female for the first time since she became a woman. It was a emotional battle for her as she did not know how her neighbours, friends and family will react. Her story was made into a film and she gained alot of recognition as the thai boxer who became a katoey.

There was another katoey who was filmed in the documentary and she is a performer as well as a teacher in a private school (teaching youths thai languange). She is quite popular with her students and she told them to look at her inner core and not judge her by her exterior. She is here to impart knowledge to them not influence their values. She had her sex change operation only after she managed to have financial stability as she believed that without a job, she is not fit to become a woman.

In present day societies, where acceptance of different kinds of people is becoming greater, we have to learn to live in harmony and also be more understanding. However, we still have a long way to go before such groups can be fully integrated and achieve unity in our global societies.

P.S. Monday 11pm National Geographic Channel has a documentary on Nature's paradise...a discovery of untouched natural beauty.

Marina Sq - Suntec - Bishan

Despite the downpour, didn't want to slack at home so asked Shuixian out to Marina Sq and Suntec. Bought a black skirt with simple kimono-liked design for only $20. It was the last piece and was also on sale. Quite happy with the purchase and the lady was very friendly and nice.

Before going to that shop, entered a victorian style shop with relatively nice clothing but the auntie was very crude and she presented one of the worst service attitude I've ever come across. I noted a skirt that was of quite flimsy material but the design was quite nice and elegant. I asked for the price and she claimed that if I like it then we can discuss about the price or else no point. She told me I can try it but I was not very keen because I was more interested to know the price, need to check my budget. Not planning to buy in the first place. When I was about to try it out, I asked her if she has a new piece as I noted that the edge of the skirt has some stray strands of thread and she told me it's a new piece and the skirt is not torn, just some stray threads that can be easily removed. She sounded very defensive and aggresive as though I am the one who spolit the skirt when I've not even tried it on.

I decided not to try and when another customer walked in to try something on, I took the chance to leave the shop. We were in the shop beside hers and she kept grumbling loudly that her skirt is fine. She was so noisy that we cannot stand it so we wanted to go to the shop diagonally opposite and as we walked past the shop again, she called out “小妹,我有一件新的要不要?” I replied “不要。” She said “新的也不要了 huh?” I kept quiet and ignored her, who will buy anything from someone like her? Forcing people to buy and when people refuse to make a purchase she kept making alot of noise as if accusing others of spoiling her stuff or saying that her stuff is of poor quality. Then when we were coming out from another shop, she was complaining to a couple and asking them to see who she was referring to. The couple only heard her side of the story and kept giving us a dirty look.

If I was in a foul mood, I would have approach the auntie and asked her what is her problem. I told Shuixian I would never return to the shop to buy anything ever because the shop's image has been tarnished by this lousy attitude auntie. If the next time I happen to see the shop owner, I might even tell him/her how the staff repelled me from the shop and lost business for the shop instead of improving sales...

We went to Suntec next and I managed to find a hello kitty plant that was on sale (Original px = $19.90 sale px = $8). It was the last one with flowers, the others are only leaves so I decided to buy it and try planting. It is quite an interesting concept as the soil and even seeds are included with a plastic pot and a hello kitty figurine. I just need to add water accordingly and give it adequate sunlight. Will take some photos of it the next time and then can see the progress of my plant growth...hehe.

We also went to Carrefour to buy some groceries before leaving the place. I thought I will be late for meeting Alvin at Junction 8 hence, took a cab but he was much later as he was held back at the camp. Had to get something to eat (went to Sakae) while waiting for him or else I would have fainted from hunger and tiredness from walking around so much.

Shopping Princess

Went out with Mum and sis to John Little and Robinsons. Managed to get a yoga pants from Bodynits at John Little and tried the OTO Tataki lower back massager...quite effective I think cos it felt like someone actually massaging your back.

Went to the Starhub Centre foodcourt and met a ajcian schoolmate selling gelato...tried a couple of flavours and personally liked the matcha green tea and berries gelatos.

They wanted to head home thereafter so I went to Plant & Planet. Bought a few other products and also spent a long time chatting with the lady there. She's very friendly and nice to talk to. Managed to learn quite alot there. Especially on essential oils and also the types of tincture suitable for what uses. The organic teas are also interesting, will probably buy them the next time i go. She shared that she actually went to UK to study Yoga, Shiatsu (unsure of spelling), basic TCM, counselling. She's Singaporean Eurasian and I had a good time sharing and listening to her. She was a smoker previously and she told me that hypnotherapy was the most effective for her to quit and she mentioned that acupuncture can also help but it's really up to the smoker to give it up as it's normally a emotional and physical addiction.

Went to Bugis by taking bus 7 and took my time to look at the different clothes and shops. Found a couple of nice clothing (a top being offered at $12) and even a pair of sandals (Scotts: $9.90) but in the end did not succumb to temptations...haha. After a late dinner at the cafe (tried the grill chicken set: not too bad), went to a shop where I spotted a dress being offered at $26.90. It was the one and only piece available and it fits me nicely. Decided to buy it if the lady is willing to reduce the price. Bargained and got it for $25!!! So happy~ even though the price reduction was pretty minimal.

Alvin came by to meet me and we took the train to Choa Chu Kang before I got a cab back home cos super tired.

NIE

Went back for the appointment with the Practicum office associate prof. They were very patient and I'm glad that my doubts were more or less cleared.

Popped by at the Chinese dept side to see if I can talk to any lecturers who might be in campus. Intended to thank Prof Zhang Aidong but she was not around. Alot of them are already on holiday so was very lucky to be able to see Prof Zhou Qing Hai. He was very kind and friendly as usual and I spent quite sometime chatting with him. He even gave me a few books which he had extras of. So paiseh, just intended to chat with him but end up receiving books from him. Left by 4pm and walked around Jurong Point for awhile before heading home.

East Coast Outing

Met Jh to take bus 55 to East Coast for our outing with Yat and Zai. We were there by 9:55 so decided to order Big Breakfast at Mcdonalds while waiting for the 2 ladies. They reached by 10:35 and we headed to rent bicycles.

Shared a double with Yat as I don't really know how to ride one. Jh and Zai got a single each. Jh was still a little unsteady but after trying a few times she managed to get it. I had quite a tough time trying to balance and was literally baked under the hot sun...we were lucky cos in the 2 hrs while we were cycling, there wasn't any rain until like close to the time we were suppose to return the bikes. Doing pillion riding was fun with Yat as she was the one in control and i just paddle behind and enjoy the ride. Think I need at least another try to be able to learn how to cycle but I'm glad that I didn't fall today.

We headed for the Funland arcade next as it started raining. It's like reliving our childhood or rather secondary school days. Being a teenager, enjoying arcade gaming. We had fun trying out the different machines and I almost lost my voice laughing as it was pretty comical, our reactions and also the games. We went back to the park as the skies had cleared. We played some card games and had lotsa fun trying to take several photos, testing the angles and not depending on others to help us take the shots.

Finally set up our very own yahoogroups so that we can share our photos and also update each other about what's going on in each others' lives.

Fulfilling day

Headed to the gym early in the morning to attend the Bodybalance class, maybe it's been awhile since my last lesson, I find the new choreography and music very refreshing and the instructor was very good. First time attending her lesson but i enjoyed in tremendously.

Tried a few new stations or rather machines around the gym with Celina but due to renovation works, have to watch where we're heading. While we were experimenting with some abdominal stretching exercises, a personal trainer came up to us and offered to teach us something. He was quite friendly and offered quite a few useful tips. He's also relatively new to the club as a trainer, previously a poly engineering student. Glad to be able to meet some nice people at the club.

Had lunch at Cineleisure, a jap fast food joint beside the korean shop. Didn't really enjoy the food as it's not that tasty...should have gotten Yoshinoya. Next time won't go there, even the food court is better.

Checked out an organic, essential oil shop in Centrepoint and managed to get some useful stuff. Nice recommendation by Celina. Will definitely go back for other products next time. Spotted a Tocca Italy leather bag at Robinsons that is similar to one I saw a lady carry on the bus the other time. Seriously, it was the first time I was mesmerized by a bag carried by others. Haha...it's not cheap even after discount, about $70+...think quality stuff. Not in a hurry to buy also, just look around first. Littlematchgirl's bags are more attractive though.

Walked to Far East and was nearly baked under the scorching sun. Today's weather was extremely sunny and without my sunblock I ended up looking pretty much like a cooked lobster. The air-conditioned malls provided a cool respite between our shopping stations...haha. Tried a red bean crispy waffle at Tangs' basement...quite tasty. Helped sis get 2 rings (it comes in a pair) in a shop named Pandora's box. Bought a file elastic band fastener with ribbon design at Paperpeople, it was the last piece. Spotted a nice dress at the shop where I got my striking purple top that costs $30+ but no intentions to buy. The fabric and design is very nice. I like the maroon color piece. The shop opposite actually sells designer japanese tees. Each costing $49.90. Limited pieces available but too expensive for a top to me.

Saw a brown bowling bag with retro design and even a shoe compartment costing $31.90 but due to the lousy attitude and impatient auntie, I decided against buying it. No hurry to get that kinda bag...a little too casual for work. More suitable for gym or going out.

Took a train back with Celina, had a very fulfilling day and was exhausted. Actually dozed off on the bus ride home. Lucky i didn't miss my stop. =P

Swing

Joined Dad & sis to Sembawang Country Club. Intended to head for a swim but had to cancel due to the downpour. Tried playing golf instead and surprisingly after not playing for so long, i managed to pick it up relatively fast and could even get the golf ball to go beyond 50m!

Had quite a good time but now lower back aching a little, think not enough warm-up. Heading to the gym tomorrow. Hope I can wake up in time for bodybalance. =)

Retail therapy deprived

Went to Far East and managed to check out some shoes, clothes and hair accessories but couldn't buy cos Mum was there. Went to Wheelock place next and had to queue outside Sakae Sushi even though it was getting late for lunch 1+pm. "Hungry people are crazy people" my sis claims. We started to entertain ourselves by observing the people around us. Finally after waiting for abt half and hour we managed to get a table. The food was ok but the service quite slow. Perhaps they need to be more efficient especially when there's a huge crowd.

Took a bus (SBS174) down to Plaza Sg and walked around before going for my piano lesson. Spotted a nice bag at littlematchgirl but the saleswoman was quite snobbish, so decided not to buy. Even if we changed our mind, we will also go to the Marina Sq branch instead.

Intended to get a cream from thefaceshop but with Mum around, couldn't. Nice belt spotted at far east was also given a miss. Just need to bear with the itch to start spending and practice self control. Suffering from withdrawal symptoms of curbing retail therapy urge.

Picking up the pieces and moving on

Since 6 Jun, over the span of a few days (4 days to be exact), it has been a tough and wild ride on the emotional rollercoaster: disappointment - upset - glad - disappointment - angry - absurd - incredulous - anxious - disppointment - resigned - moody

Was quite surprised that I didn't really wallow in self-pity and goodness knows where I got the courage to pick up the pieces and also to quickly get things going. Calls to be made, people to contact, no time to brood over things. Somehow in the first 24 hr, sleep didn't register, insomnia and appetite lost took over. Tears did fall but not as much as expected. Tried to look on the brighter side of things but it's tough.

Felt super incredulous when was told that "You are very upset. Was this a surprise?" Am I suppose to foresee this outcome and be happy about it? The very least I could do was to control my emotions and not erupt in anger already. Time for reality check perhaps. More self reflection necessary. Meanwhile, retail therapy is also out of the question. Super down...

Would like to take this chance to thank all those who showed concern, assisted me during such a horrible time and continue to believe in me. =)

Gal power

Been ages since I last caught up with Zai, Yat and Jiahui. We finally met at Causeway Point today for brunch at Burger King. Chatted quite abit and also walked around before I left for Cityhall with Jiahui. We've also arranged to meet up again at East Coast next tuesday. Basically, Yat and Jiahui are both looking for jobs while Zai has just started her NUS arts and social science course.

Went to Raffles City, Citylink, Suntec by taking the train (transfer at Jurong east was faster from Woodlands) and doing lotsa walking. Took bus 36 at the bus stop outside Sakae Sushi in Suntec to Orchard Road. Went to Cineleisure and Wheelock place before taking a bus to Bishan to meet Alvin. Had to stop and get some food by 6pm so went to Sakae sushi in Wheelock place. Felt good to be able to sit down and also replenish some energy with my fave food. =)

Disappointment, Upset, Absurd

The stormy afternoon did nothing to lessen the lousy feelings I had...at this point in time, I can only keep my fingers crossed that whoever can assist me will provide me with sound advice. The emotional and mental strain has made me lose my appetite and sleep.

Potluck at Shuixian's place

Reached Serangoon MRT station around 4+pm and it was 6pm by the time I reached Shuixian's place to prepare the salad for our NIE class potluck gathering. Waiting for some of our classmates was the main reason. Shuixian booked the function room at her condominium "The Amaranda" and it has a very nice view of the swimming pool. The food was quite a spread as there were otahs, fishballs, chicken wings, nuggets, salad, beehoon, ee mian, sandwich, jelly and drinks.

Besides Shuduan, Mindy, Yuanlin and Yifen, the rest of us turned up. Intended to take photos but low batt for Yanxuan's digicam so think we only managed to take one. Chatted and ate till 10+pm before we left. Had a really nice time together, will miss my classmates and the times we've shared.

Gathering at Prof Goh

Shuixian's father was kind enough to offer a ride to Tanah Merah MRT station as the rest of us are meeting there before walking to Prof Goh Yeng Seng's condominium.

We didn't know he invited the diploma crossovers and it was pretty obvious that there's a generation gap as when the aunties started talking, our side kept pretty quiet. Besides Shuduan's group and Yifen, the rest turned up.

Went to Suntec with Shuixian after that and for the first time, I saw that the carpark at suntec is full!!! Imagine how many people are there in the building!?!?!

People's Park Complex

The newly renovated shopping area is now furnished with new shops selling mostly beads, accesories, clothes and textiles. Quite a few shops with interesting designs, very similar to Korean style fashion clothing. Didn't have much time to explore the place but I'm glad the famous Yong Tau Foo stall is still at the same place. =)

Over the Hedge

Caught this entertaining and heart-warming movie with Xian-jie...like the 3 small porcupines the most, the vivid colours and catchy tunes are also plus points...can check out the extremely interactive website:

SAM Fiction@love

Visited SAM with Alvin on Sunday...had a great time there cos the exhibitions were very interesting and it's more like pop art for the Fiction@love section...entrance was free as they were having some museum day or something...

Bought a book from the museum shop describing the art works and artists for this exhibition...we had a very late lunch as we were viewing the exhibits and also taking part in the contest that can win a nokia hp worth $838...just need to do a storyboard drawing of 3 pictures and submit there since they have all the materials u need.

Walked to Raffles City for MOS burger before taking the train back. Had dinner with 外婆、大姨 and 大舅's family together at 茂興 the Teochew restaurant at Keypoint. The food there is very nice and reasonably priced but the service is a little below standards. Can try out the 素菜, steamed pomfret, 水晶包 and the yam paste.

Beginning my working life...

First day reporting in school today...reached HGPS by 6:55am...talked to the vice principal and principal briefly. We were introduced to the school after flag raising.

Basically had to conduct relief lessons for 2 teachers, one being the HOD of chinese as he is on course. Don't know which classes i will have to teach and my permanent seat for now. So temporary I'm just like a relief teacher with a table in the resource room...

Taught Maths to a primary 3 class (kilograms and grams conversion) then let them play their own stuff. P6 was the class with alot of problems so just tried to talk to the 2 boys with attitude problem and let the rest do their own stuff quietly.

Went for a p3 chinese excursion trip to Marina City Park with 4 other chinese teachers and 2 parent volunteers...had quite a nice experience but was super tired...reached home only by 4plus, by then i was starving and felt faint...after my late lunch, felt feverish and sick...needed to rest before I felt better after dinner. Tomorrow there's no school as it's the school's polling day holiday. Going shopping and lunch out @ Orchard with Mum...yeah!

Down again

Had a slight eye infection last night and thought it will be fine after some eye drops and sleep, however, today in campus, it became worse, so i had to visit the Medical Centre in NTU to see the doc. Went during one of the seminar sections as the soreness and itchiness were getting to difficult to bear.

The doctor diagnosed that I have very sensitive eyes and it is not congevities. I have to take good care and not rub my eyes when something gets in. The best is to use eyedrops but I have to discard them once I've opened the bottle for 1 month.

As i was also suffering from sore throat, she prescribed me with a green lozenges that is very effective...got a slight numbing effect after i eat it but my sore throat is in the recovery state after 2 of it...

Had dinner with Yifen and Alvin...they got the chance to talk and find out a little bit more about each other...(Hao ma remind me to ask u abt the verdict...hehe) Walked around for awhile in Jurong Point before I got a cab back home...think was too tired, I actually dozed off on my way back.

Don't think I can go to the half day programme tmr in campus...something about health education...how to go when im not even in a healthy state? Have to give the SPCA visit planned with Shuixian a miss too...some other day gal ok? Sorry...

Beginning a new phase of life soon...

Received my posting last week and by 22 may I will report for work as a teacher.

For the past 2 weeks, have been going back to campus and visiting some sites which NIE has arranged for our enrichment course. Managed to squeeze in time for leisure too by going out and getting some shopping done. Perhaps the running around and late nights is taking a toll on my body, been having a sore throat and feeling quite lethargic these few days. Hope to recover soon so that I can be energized to start my teaching career.

Hope to see my ex-students soon...missed them...hehe

Sunday, May 14, 2006

So much has happened...

Haven't been online recently as I've been going back to campus for the enrichment programmes...some are quite interesting but others are just time for me to catch up with my classmates...hehe...just came back from a secondary school friends' gathering at east coast last night...had a bbq and even though we can still recognise each other but so much has changed...in terms of what each of us are doing now and how we have become more mature...quite amazing to see the developments in terms of the person's character as well as the varied job scopes...

Had a very fulfilling and enjoyable time catching up. Will probably post some photos at a later date...hope to remain in contact with them in the years to come.

Kevin Kern's concert in Singapore

5C in a gal

Came up with the 5C in a gal to be fair...hehe

1) Caring: Which guy wouldn't fall for a gal who is so caring and sensitive to his feelings? Guys need to be pampered too.

2) Compatible: It's better to be on the same wavelength in a relationship...although some say they don't mind having bfs who are not of the same educational levels but i think it will affect their communication in the relationship.

3) Cute: Kawaii des ne! Most guys do fantasize that their gfs are those Japanese anime characters...well i did say most and not all...with their huge innocent eyes and darlie commercial smile who wouldn't fall for cuteness?

4) Clever: A gal has to know when it's time to give some space for her guy before it gets too suffocating. It's an art...the game of love that is. Being clever at the right moments can help to sustain a relationship longer.

5) Considerate: Being considerate means being thoughtful to the needs of your partner...know when it is men's talk session, don't interrupt and in my case, gaming session, give him time. Consider it time for you to take a break and head out for chattingor shopping session with ya gal pals. Spare a thought for his feelings too. He is afterall human and not your robot.

5S in a guy

Read from Yunny's nickname in msn today: 5S in a guy - Sensitive, Sincere, Sensual, Sexy and Stylish.

Thought that sensual and sexy are similar so decided to change sexy to smart.

Here's my take on what it means to possess the 5S...

1) Sensitive: A guy has to know when his lady is in a lousy mood and takes the initiative to cheer her up. Being sensitive also means daring to reveal his feelings and not be afraid to cry when he feels like it. Of course not as often as a gal lah...hehe.

2) Sincere: A guy has to mean what he says...don't give praises and compliments for the sake of doing them. It is super fake and gals can spot the difference. Being sincere also makes us feel that we are treasured and not taken for granted.

3) Sensual: A guy with confidence and charisma is the most sensual to me. Of course we are not referring to his over the top ego but rather his quiet confidence that he knows what he is doing and what he aims to achieve. Charisma, however, i believe is in a person, either u have it or u don't. Something like creativity...cannot be taught.

4) Smart: Besides being street-smart, a guy has to have substance...without brains and all brawn is simply a himbo who won't help to keep a gal's attention for long...who will want the same poster boy when she can simply select new ones from a couple of fashion magazines?

5) Stylish: Although some people are not blessed with good looks however, knowing how to dress well will help take care of that. It will also help build up a person's confidence by knowing what looks good on you and what is simply a big NO-NO.

Well think that's about all I can write for now...in the meantime will think of something to write for the female side.

Desaru

Went to Malaysia's Desaru with my family on Sunday as my dad's colleague is getting married there and invited him. We reached M'sia by late afternoon and had the herbal chicken at JB before heading to Desaru. The journey was faster than i expected. There was only a small petting zoo and although horse riding was available there was only one very skinny horse and another pony so we forgo that. Went to the beach and the sand is very fine. At night we went to Sungai Rengit and to a school as the dinner is held at the covered basketball court. The bride is same age as me and the bridesgroom is 2 years older. The food was quite nice but it was quite hot.

This morning we went to the beach again to take some more photos before checking out. Bought some fruits along the way and had lunch before heading back to Sg. Didn't have the chance to shop cos Dad is afraid that there will be a traffic jam at the causeway.

Gone...

Went to town alone to check out the dress I saw at Forever21 on Wed and there's no more stock!!! Can't even try it out! Tried out a white dress at john little at Compasspoint before this and it was only at $39 but mum refuses to buy. Sigh...

Met Celina for coffee and chatting and she has slimmed down alot not due to exercise...stress and bothered...poor thing. Was pouring heavily when I went to meet Alvin in Bishan so was pretty drenched. We went to take a photocard...sis say my smile is fake...*sob*

Debriefing

Met our supervisor at Tampines Mall's Delifrance for the debrief. Just exchanged to take a look at our practicum files. Quite heavy and by about an hour or so later, we left. Went to check out the new sanrio corner in Isetan...super small, don't even have the Melody stickers i was looking for.

Had lunch at Genki Sushi before going home...feel so sleepy and it's going to rain again.

Vodaskin

Met Alvin at his house first before having lunch with his sis too at Lucky Plaza food court as she needs to get vegetarian food. We walked around tangs and scott's bodyshop before going to Vodaskin in Far East Plaza.

Valerie treated us to a facial and i had the clarifying mask. It was ok and the promotional price is quite affordable as they are targetting youngsters in the area. Only $25 for a facial or a peel.
